Re: Shelby
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHey Jeff, I try hard not to be a pessimist, but I personally thing that the Atlanta hamfest won¡¯t ever happen again with the current powers that be.? In 2019 they cancelled on very short notice.? 2020 was the covid year, so I¡¯ll give them that.? 2021 was another last minute cancellation, blaming everything except we didn¡¯t have our shit together.? 2022 took place, with an OK boneyard, and a really nice facility with only one hats-and-name badges vendor.? They acted surprised that no vendors showed up.? Was it really a secret that nobody had expressed interest, paid money, or gave any indication that they would come?? They act as if the previous two cancellations had nothing to do with it.? ? So 2023 was supposed to be somehow different?? Yet another last minute cancellation because there were no vendors.? This was a surprise a couple weeks before the hamfest?? They hadn¡¯t noticed that nobody was signed on as a vendor?? So they kicked the can to next year with an assumption that the vendors will magically reappear?? ? I¡¯m sure I¡¯m sounding like a cranky old man complaining about everything.? But I see the Lawrenceville hamfest as successful and growing.? Huntsville is successful and growing.? Orlando is successful and, if not growing, at least holding steady.? Dayton is successful and growing.? Even Dalton is holding it¡¯s own.? So why can¡¯t Atlanta Hamfest succeed?? Is it really the customer¡¯s fault?? Nah, I don¡¯t think so.? I think it¡¯s managed by folks who don¡¯t have any idea how to run a hamfest, and they have run it into the ground four years running (not counting the covid year).? As long as the same folks are in charge, it ain¡¯t going nowhere.? Even with new folks running it, there is a huge hurdle to overcome because regardless of who is in charge, the vendors will think same old, same old ARC BS.? It will take exceptional effort to get vendors back.? ? I just hope ARC isn¡¯t footing the bill for the booth, admission, posters, and travel for the folks who seem to have been at every other hamfest the past few years peddling their Atlanta non-hamfest. ? OK, rant 2 over.? Sorry.? ? Looking forward to Lawrenceville.? ? UW ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jeff Otterson

It will be interesting to see if the Atlanta Hamfest has any juice left in it,?should it actually be held next June.? If I was a vendor I would be **pissed** that they pulled the plug so late last year, pissed off enough to not go back.? That one is also circling the drain.? FWIW, I did a web search just now, and the only reference I could find to the 2024 event is a picture on Facebook from Huntsville that says the 'fest is on June 2 2024.? The thing's not gonna happen without some PR! Or at least give out a flyer at the hamfest.? How do you spell "crash and burn?" ? OTOH, Stone Mountain was pretty good last year, and I am looking forward to it. ? Huntsville has been fun when I have gone. I'm pretty sure I would not want to flea market in there?since everything but the tables have to be carried in.? A flea market, but not a tailgate. ? Glad you had some fun, Dave, and a change of scenery at least. Now my question for you is: are you looking for your lost shaker of salt today?? Will you fire up the blender for Jimmy? Jeff n1kdo ?
