KN6RO Tower Project Update

Roger Hackler

Well Gang, it's time for the latest KN6RO tower project update.

The line pump did in fact manage to show up last Thursday, late in the
evening. Unfortunately Kimberly had the digicam and I didn't get any
pictures of the fun.

However, the base did get poured, and the coins put in for good luck!
Actually, I finished the concrete and put the coins right on top! I figure
that without all of that mud to go through, the electrons have a much better
chance of getting home.

So, at that point, I had a huge concrete cube in the ground with 10 feet of
tower in in. Last night I got a little froggy and bolted the second section
on, walked it up, so now I have 20 feet in the air. Lesson learned - For
field day raising 20 feet of tower is a 7 man operation, but with it stuck
on a fold over base and 6000 Lbs of concrete, it can be done by one man. 20
feet is about all I can handle by myself. I think that I'm going to need
about 6 folks to stand the whole 50 feet of tower with the antennas
attached.

The KT-34 construction is coming along. Dave Moss, If you're available
Saturday Morning for a couple or 4 hours to help me with the antenna, I sure
could use it.

The last of the stuff I need is not going to be here until the 26th...and
with the weather this weekend scheduled to be questionable (which means
it'll be fine), I would like to see who is available for Saturday, August
28th to have a tower party and get this thing done.

I have lots of beer and lots of food!!!!

I'm attaching some pics for your viewing pleasure.

The ones of the balun on the beam are interesting...notice how the aluminum
plate now forms to the balun courtesy of the stainless hose clamps.

See y'all soon!
