Power suply, Campbel Board and gecko drives
INDECO
I am soooo confused!!!
I have a power supply from and a Campbell board from and the Gecko g201 , and 2-g320 drives. Just about finished with the power supply and at the point of wiring the drives and board and I don't understand any of it at all. Does anyone have this setup and can you send me pics if you do? Thanks, Robin |

You might want to pay a little extra for an IEEE-1284 spec MM cable
which should provide better performance. I imagine we're pushing that cable pretty hard. --- In mach1mach2cnc@..., "barrchordbill" <billjames@c...> wrote: I need a cable to interface my computer's (DB25 female) serial portthis an OEM cable or can I find one at Radio Schack etc. and what is it |

Re: Serial cable terminology
Jeff Goldberg
The current generic term for a straight through RS-232 cable is a "modem
cable" The generic term for an RS-232 cable to connect 2 PC's is a "cross-over cable" (more properly called a null-modem cable) Look for one with all 25 wires attached. Think of a computer as a "terminal" (Data Terminal Equipment - DTE) and a modem as a piece of "communications" equipment (Data Communication Equipment - DCE) The standard is to be able to link one DTE to one DCE with a straight through cable. If hooking two DTE's (like 2 PC's) together, the transmit pin one one goes to the receive pin on the other and vice versa, so the pins have to "cross over". Be aware that if one side of the cable is a 9 pin and the other is a 25 pin, the pin numbers don't actually cross, but the name "cross over" is still sometimes used as the description based on a 25 pin to 25 pin cable. Centerline engraving font
Hi
This seems a simple task but I cannot find a simple solution in our archives or Google. I want to use some simple fonts (roman and italic styles - perhaps slighltly informal like Comic Sans) to engrave labels with a small ball-nose cutter. Are there any suitable as free/shareware or how about a utility to convert TrueType outlines to centreline? Thanks John Prentice |

--- In mach1mach2cnc@..., "kdoney_63021"How about this one:- .jpg .jpg This was built for an Ahha unit but with a change of overlay it can be reprogrammed for anything. It consists of a bought keypad and box and a programmable chip from a company called X-Keys. Web site is It's just a case/ and keypad the X-Keys board and an old hard drive cable chopped up. Nice thing about this is you can nest keys 3 layers deep like Alt- Cntrl-F8 to get one operation. Mine is a PS2 but it's an old unit, they now do USB. This was about the third attempt, the first two worked fine but as you use them you see ways to improve and the chip allows this. Best to just use a paper overlay at first until you get fixed up. all my overlay is, is a sheet of ordinary paper printed out on my CAD system as I'm at home with this and then laminated and secured with spary on glue. I printed 3 spares up while I did this one, 4 to a sheet, but the origianl one is still fine afetr about 4 years in a production shop. John S. |

<hickspj467@c...> wrote: John, little or no changes. I have seen very little correspondence re the manuallately. do you feel it is in a 'lockdown' state presently?Hi all: That is a cruel question PJ ;-) The text on Yahoo! does not properly cover the recent Constant Velocity revisions so does not properly document Art's lockdown 4.0. I have been struggling a bit because I can only work at the screen for about 10 minutes as the repaired eye gets very tired. I think that what I will do is refer to the CV modes on Configure Logic and the other recent features as soon as possible and release a manual for Mach2 4.0 that Art can post on his site by the coming weekend. I would wait to print that. Thanks for the further comments on Script documentation. Art and I have discussed this after the previous input and what I will do is: (a) Have the manual for Mach2Mill (and in due course Mach2Turn, Mach2Plasma or whatever) which describes setting up AND using the appropriate machine. These manuals will refer to Screen Designer, Macros and Button Scripts but really only to suggest to users what can be done - this will slightly reduce the current size. (b) There will be a manual common to all machine type variants that documents Screen Designer, loadable screens, Macros, Button Scripts in detail with as many worked examples as I can scrounge (or write). It will not attempt to teach the syntax and semantics of VBScript but assume that the reader has struggled with the online documentation from Microsoft (I too like books) or has a copy of something like "VBScript in a Nutshell". This manual attempt to be complete in that it will contain the OEM codes for controls (with a reference to the MachDN versions for the very latest coding). This will be a biggish task and cannot really be started in detail until we can play with the proposed dynamic screens feature - so I guess Mid April might make sense for a release. The rationale is that I must minimise the duplication of text inorder to keep maintenance as a manageble task. I agree that the chaperts on setting up a machine will probably not be used much once one is "up and running" but I do think that beginners will need to run simple G-Code during the building of their machines so the learing will be a rather "spiral-like" process. The architecture does not help a "machine operator" but such a person will need lots of detail on the actual machine controls, overrides etc. so needs custom documentation/training. So that's where we stand, do keep up your feedback on structure or details - Every suggestion will probably help many people save time an confusion. John Prentice |

Re: Version 4.0 Locked down and released.
Art
Hi Carl:
Some time ago a few of us had a discussion about having each screenYes, this option is already in preperation , I needed to get version 4.0 locked down first as I refuse to change things too much in a lockdown. Now that I have the freedom of doing extraordinary changes in the future development versions, separate screens are now possible and I have it very high on my to-do. I would like to see Mach2 capable of loading any number of user created screens suited to various functions and needs. I intend to create a user directory with future releases adding more screens as they get developed. Mach2 could grow very quickly this way by utulizing better the power that has been added this year. I am looking forward myself to this capability as I think it then becomes a true "Lego" type program with all the blocks available and the creations will be a thing to see. I will be working hard toward this end very shortly (within the week) and its possibel that version 5.0 may have legacy issue for those that want to upgrade beyond 4.0. I think it may be necessary to get to the kind of power to the user I really have envisioned all along... What I'm aiming for is a dynamic screen creation where the current screens are labeled as static (Always loaded), but user screens found in the "Conversational" directory are dynamic. The program will compile a list of them when starting, and a menu type interface will be added to the program allowing you to select any of them and they will then "Load" and become active till you tell them to unload or next start of the program. This will give great power because Mach2 will then be able to "sort of" configure on the fly to be different applications. If there is no "default" set of static screens , then a user would have only the menu interface to load any variations of control types he wishes. Thanks, Art |
French Screen version 4.0
Art, could you include french screens version 4.0 i just sent you to
your support mail, in the 4.0 lockdown ? I just changed the version number and made some small modifications in the translations, for a better understanding of mach2 for french users, according to a professional french CNC user advices. I know 2 or 3 french users who use them, but there are certainly others ? Thanks, Olivier. |
Re: Version 4.0 Locked down and released.
kepello
Art,
Some time ago a few of us had a discussion about having each screen in Mach2 loadable seperately rather than (or in addition to) having screen sets. I believe that the idea was well received, but don't recall you checking in on the idea. Have you considered this option? Has it made your todo list anywhere? I know we are always asking for more, perhaps I should mention just how EXCELLENT your tech support is. I just spent *hours* on the phone with Microsoft reporting a "feature" that their software has that they were unaware of, and which will be removed in the next version. I wouldn't bother even trying to make a real feature request... Thanks! Carl |
Version 4.0 Locked down and released.
Art
Hi All:
Version 2.0 is gone. Version 4.0 will reign. At present there is no development version till next release, but this lockdown is not the same as the previous version 4.0, it includes certain fixes. Version 4.0 is well recieved and bug reports are more scarce than usual. I will fix it as required for serious flaws, but barring that it was time for 2.0 to go away. It was a very good lockdown and served us well for several months, but its flaws were known and required too much email support. So we now move on to a new development version on next release, and all new users will be downloading Version 4.0. Please keep any bug reports from this point forward confined to version 4.0 if you can, it will speed up resolution. New things in Veriosn 4.0 LockDown.. 1) Rutex tuner can select port addresses. 2) HPGL -> As drawn, metric/english and import cancel repaired or added. 3) Blend Factor renamed to "Angular descrimination" 4) Laser Feedrate Control reverted back top Laser PWM control. 5) Coordinate setting for home switches were switched in too soon making them change a bit. Fix implemented. 6) Ref Comination moves are allowed in Scripts with RefCombination(SHORT combo) This command will Ref any combination of axis. The "combo" parameter is a bit switched number. Each bit in the number from d0 to d5 is an axis with X as zero and C as 5. So to create a axis move of X and Z for example would be X = 1, Y= 2, Z = 4, A = 8, B = 16, C = 32 RefCombination( X + Z ) Thanks, Good Luck, Art www.artofcnc.ca |
