Hi Carl:
Some time ago a few of us had a discussion about having each screen
in Mach2 loadable seperately rather than (or in addition to) having
screen sets. I believe that the idea was well received, but don't
recall you checking in on the idea.
Have you considered this option?
Has it made your todo list anywhere?
Yes, this option is already in preperation , I needed to get version 4.0
locked down first as I refuse to change things too much in a lockdown. Now
that I have the freedom of doing extraordinary changes in the future
development versions, separate screens are now possible and I have it very
high on my to-do. I would like to see Mach2 capable of loading any number of
user created screens suited to various functions and needs. I intend to
create a user directory with future releases adding more screens as they get
developed. Mach2 could grow very quickly this way by utulizing better the
power that has been added this year. I am looking forward myself to this
capability as I think it then becomes a true "Lego" type program with all
the blocks available and the creations will be a thing to see. I will be
working hard toward this end very shortly (within the week) and its possibel
that version 5.0 may have legacy issue for those that want to upgrade beyond
4.0. I think it may be necessary to get to the kind of power to the user I
really have envisioned all along...
What I'm aiming for is a dynamic screen creation where the current screens
are labeled as static (Always loaded), but user screens found in the
"Conversational" directory are dynamic. The program will compile a list of
them when starting, and a menu type interface will be added to the program
allowing you to select any of them and they will then "Load" and become
active till you tell them to unload or next start of the program. This will
give great power because Mach2 will then be able to "sort of" configure on
the fly to be different applications. If there is no "default" set of static
screens , then a user would have only the menu interface to load any
variations of control types he wishes.
Thanks,
Art
