Re: software

maybe i should add one more.. was a little vage..

steps would be

cad program (rhino)
cam program (mastercam,featurecam ect.)
post processor (build into cam software)
mach1-2

and done :)

and maybe some other little steps. if you want to buy more software.

i listed mastercam and featurecam because i know they do 5axis' but
not alot of cam software does this or a cost a ton. Im just guessing
your budget is lower because your using rhino. not saying there
anything wrong with rhino but its a lower cost cad/3d program.

as for the post processor. if you custom make the machine. you will
have to tweak edit one of the "posts" that comes with the cam
software. or have one made for you.. Alot of time if your buying the
cam software they will make you one just to sell you the software.
and they should for 10k bucks :P

you got to think about do you really need 5axis . or can you get away
with 3 with little more work. Would a 3ax that can run faster less
backlash and cost less be better? would you just have to turn you
mold 3 times and be done faster anyway?

cheapest 5ax cam software i can think of now that is any good would
be visualmill and think its 4k. but should be other if you look
around.

goodluck

More than the trouble of setting up the system might look into the
cost of a 5axis software. Not sure what type of budget you have but
most stuff cost all most as much as a new car every year :)

as for mach1 running it will be fine. what you will have problems
with is post processors. You will have to custom make one or hope
you
can tweak one. Or maybe pay someone to make one for you.

Good luck can't really help that much as i dont own a 5ax yet :P
maybe someday

I would be glad to. I recently purchased a cnc hot wire machine

I
want to build a cnc router to cut molds for the bodies or
fuselages
for R/C aircraft. The material to be cut is relativly soft foam
and
will be used for the molds and mandrels. It wasnt too difficult
to
get going with the wing cutter but I know this is a different
beast.
What CAM software do I need to use with the Mach1 and Mach2? I
am
planning to draw inside Rhino and then go from there, but I dont
know
the steps needed to get from Rhino to a mold in my hands. The
table
doesnt have to be a 5 axis but I sure want it to be, unless it is
going to be too much trouble. I dont know what too much trouble
is
but you might.

Thanks

Jason,

What CNC machine are you going to use?

Mach2 should be able to do it as long as you have a 5 axis CNC
machine and
the proper Cam program.

You may want to tell us a little about what you have and what
you
plan on
doing.

Does anyone want to comment on the software to run a 5 axis
vs
a 3
axis router? Is there much or any differance in the software
and
how
hard is it going to be for a beginner to pick up? Is Mach1
and
2
the
right product or am I going to have to go another direction?

Thanks for your input
