Where have all my steps gone?

Mike Hammel

I have a "missing step" problem. No, my porch isn't missing!

I am running a router with 2000 steps per inch on x, 400 steps per inch on y.

If I run simple patterns, I don't loose any steps. If I do some pocketing or engraving, I start loosing steps. I think (I'm probably wrong) that I am seeing an accumulation of fractional missed steps because Mach 2 goes out to the forth digit and I am only able to go .0025 on the y and .0005 on the x.

X rarely misses steps, y is the worse (400 steps per inch).

I have tried slowing y down to a crawl and I still end up missing steps.

Any Ideas?

Hi Matt,

Pretty much any joystick will work. If you want to use it with
KeyGrabber then it has to be USB. KeyGrabber will allow you program the
fire buttons to act as keys and will allow you to define the function of
each axis.
