Re: screen editor

this does seem to be the best so far, at least i can do multiple
eselections so i can move items as a block. can also select and delete
stuff which is nice but here is a screenshot that shows what i mess i
need to deal with. there is no way i can do precise relocation or adding
of elements with this mess. items overlap and there are things that are
not on the screen but are in the way of understanding what is really
there. this is the default 1024 screen with a few simple edits. it
displays fine in mach3. are there setting i need to change to get this
to display reasonably? i am using a win8.1 computer with a 1920 x 1080
display.

Jumping in here - it is most regrettable you are having such trouble.

I believe that mach3screen.exe (Ver 2.7e) will do everything you need.
It works on Win 7 and Win 8.1 (64 bit) for me in simple tests although
I am not using regularly anymore. Mach3Screen has no tricky .ddl
requirements or installation - indeed it can be run after downloading
from any folder (even on a USB thumb drive).

I don't know what comes in the latest Mach3 install but you can
download this working version from

Screen4 has its fans and phobics - the one certain thing is that it
will destroy a screen set if it is run on a display with resolution
that causes it to display scroll bars on the main window. Art Fenerty
always used a nice big screen but my machines have 1024 x 768 and this
of course needs scrolling to show a screenset that is 1024 x 768.

BTW: The screens are defined in .set files which are essentially
binary images of the data structures used within Mach3; no hand
editing is possible.

Let us know how you get on.

so maybe screen4 has the only chance of working. i tried it on one of
my xp machines and i can not select anything. if i right mouse click
an item, it is briefly selected and then the selection disappears as
soon as i release the mouse or sooner. undo does not work so every
time i mess it up i have to close and reload the program. the program
is amazingly quirky and non intuitive. is there a user guide or a
tutorial showing how to do the most basic stuff? i am really losing
patience. all i want to do is remove all the 4th axis DRO stuff add an
MDI to the hole created and add a button to toggle the second spindle
on and off. i don't think this should take 2 days of experimenting.

since i can get some basic stuff to work with one of the other editors
such as adding the DRO, is there some file that i can edit by hand to
remove stuff as this is almost impossible with screen4. does one of
the XML files contain the screen information or some other file that
might be somewhat comprehensible?

i can not find a screen editor for mach3 that works. when starting
the
original mach screen i get an error that machscreenreadonly.dll is
missing although the program does load.<snip>
