Backing up iPads

I used to back up my iPad regularly but for some reason have not done so for, literally, years. I’ve just done so, backing it up to my MacBook Pro, and get a message about films and videos not syncing because I need the TV app and the Video app from (surprise!) the App Store. I have looked for these before but was unsure about which was the correct app to download. Sounds stupid really but have you done this and what are the correct apps called please?

I backed up my iPhone to my ageing iMac which has the old standard USB sockets and my iPad to the MBP because both use the USB-C type.

Frankly I’m not too bothered about my iPad because I’ not doing anything particularly important with it, but I know it’s backing itself up to the cloud because that apparently is the default unless you say otherwise.

I back my iPhone up to my iMac Pro - and I have a secondary backup on my old iMac.

I just haven’t actually got my head round the iPad but I should.

Ah, well, I don’t have my head in the iCloud! I recently saw an old article saying that the TV app came with OS 10.2 so maybe they mean the Apple Music thing, to which I don’t subscribe anyway. I don’t rent music but just download it.

I’m a dinosaur I have music on CDs - remember those. Gave the vinyl away though:-) I use Spotify - in free mode mind you because I’m mean.

I really don’t have my head round the Cloud. I back my Mac and iPhone up to my iMac which then has TM.

Internet steady and dies most things we want. But can buffer a bit on occasions on smart tv.

Our landline is ADSL2+ - no NBN this area. Some people up our valley have invested in Sky Link - $1000 antenna and install and $140 a month (Au $s).

I’m waiting for new phone mast in the area and will probably go with a 4g connection.

Should move back to Kent - all the spies must be there as internet speeds are good. But that would be a big move. :-)

Picked up this new iPhone manual at a newsagent yesterday — my husband is new to the iPhone but its fast become his favourite phone as it connects straight to his hearing aids with blue tooth.
Plus its good for taking pictures of tractor parts/chain saw parts/ rider mower parts ?he might need :-) Thats Aussie dollars price - might be cheaper other end of the globe.

Just looked it up and it’s ?10.99 delivered in print but I haven’t checked the newsagents.

I still have piles of CDs and boxes of LPs, haunted as I am by having read that it’s breach of something or other to get rid of music you’ve ripped to iTunes or whatever. Not that I have ripped many LPs so far, as it’s a faff and you need special software.

Its not faff so much with LPs as needing a turntable with a usb output so you can either plug to Mac or record to usb stick.
Cd’s easier — I had to buy an external Cd drive/burner as the iMac Pro didn’t have one….blasted Apple leaving out something we need. ?Apple talks music but they don’t actually want you to do anything with your music.?

I have the turntable but we are so cramped in this little house that I can’t get it near enough to my iMac; it’s actually in my hobby shed in the garden, where I play EverQuest and have my radio. All surfaces are taken up by stuff including a printer that needs attention to make it work. I’m hoping the rising energy costs won’t stop me using my shed but you never know. Damn Putin cutting grain shipments off as well; I wish someone would do him in!
