Hi up there...... you are awful quiet
Hope you're all ok up there. ?I took delivery of my iPad -- been experimenting with it. Flash as it is I keep retreating to my Mac....love my Mac. But I will probably find uses for the iPad as I go along. So far I am thinking it is the toy I always thought it was. ?But something to fiddle with while we have been in 5 day lockdown - a chance to teach myself new things . Borders between Qld and NSW look to be closed past Christmas at this point. No one going anywhere down here.
I had a DNA connection come up on Ancestry who is a son of my late mother's only brother late Jun. I sent him some info he replied he had Covid and I haven't heard from him since that email 30th June. ?:-(? Jude ? |
开云体育Hi JudeYes, we have been a bit quiet, but I was thinking about you and your iPad Pro yesterday, wondering how things were going. I hope that your relative is OK. ?COVID remains a problem . . . The iPad is a conundrum: it’s really powerful and fast, but there are things that you can’t do with it. ?Do you have the magic keyboard? ?I tend to take both iPad (Air 3rd gen) and MacBook (2017 12” Retina) because the latter has the filing system that works with my photo programme (Capture One Pro) and my photo filing. ?It’s not as fast as my iPad or my iMac (2019) but it does the job while on holiday. ?And we’re heading off to Devon, near Totnes, on Thursday for six nights. ?We’ll have electric power but nothing else at the site. When my training contract pays up I’ll get myself the latest iPad Air, and perhaps buy my wife a new iMac (if she’ll let me) to replace the 2011 20”. It was our 41st wedding anniversary yesterday and we have a “date night” to night at the local pub; it’s owned by Mark Hix, a pretty well-known chef for seafood. ?I’m not keen on seafood but there will be red meat as well. Cheers Chris

开云体育My very favourite Mac qualified tech is hardly being enthusiastic on the new 24 inch iMac because it only comes with 256 HD which in his opinion is too small. and that appears to be all thats being delivered outright around the place. If you want 512 you have to order and that is more than a months wait. ?I think the 256 is ok for someone who just browses the web and does a few emails and the odd docs. (my husband is in that category). I on the other hand have half filled my 1TB.I had to wait a month for my M1 iPad Pro… I have always thought them in terms of being a toy and frankly not really changed my mind at the moment. It seems to sit somewhere between the iPhone and the Mac…. mine has sat for more than a day shut down next to my bed at the present. But I am progressing the drawing packages and I have installed Libby with a library card so I can download magazines and books and found two Mac mags I have read.? My fav tech tells me people are instead going for second hand 27 inch Intel at the present if any come in - he gives them thorough testing before they are let out and often they get a new and bigger SSD. He had two 2019 iMac come in in the past couple of weeks and I forwarded to him customers for two of them for him. Of course at the moment with the Covid situation and working from home the i-appliances sales have gone totally mad — people buying whatever they can to be able to work from home.? We are allowed out for a date night at the moment :-) You have a way to catch up to our anniversary numbers. ?But well done you two. ?I keep getting told Pete and I are dinosaurs and considering the other 6 half siblings are on seconds and thirds I think we have done rather well.? 开云体育Congratulations on the anniversary, Chris! ?Give us a wave as you pass us on your way to Totnes! ?We used to go there every so often, when we lived in Hittisleigh I think it was. ?The last time we set out to go, from Clyst St Mary, we lost our enthusiasm after a while and went somewhere else instead. We are taking a couple of nights in a hotel in Sidmouth, to cover the Air Show on the Friday (27th). ?Yes, we could go down on the bus as we always have done before but we wanted to spoil ourselves! 开云体育That’s interesting about the new pastel-shade 24in iMacs which do *look* very toothsome. So 27in Intel are in demand? ?Well I’m not parting with mine, I love it but it must be 9 years old or getting on that way. Size matters and I’m still loving my 16in MBPro!Best Susan On 11 Aug 2021, at 04:29, Judith Hall <glenidol@...> wrote: My very favourite Mac qualified tech is hardly being enthusiastic on the new 24 inch iMac because it only comes with 256 HD which in his opinion is too small. and that appears to be all thats being delivered outright around the place. 开云体育Thanks, Susan. We live in West Dorset now, so Totnes is not far from us (we’re north of Beaminster). ?I didn’t know that there was an air display at Sidmouth! ?I might see if I can sneak down . . . Cheers Chris

开云体育Yes, 256Gb is way too small. ?I have a 3Tb Fusion drive in my 2019 27” iMac so that I can keep my photo files onboard. ?I bought the iMac before they changed away from the Fusion drives. ?If I had only 1Tb on my iMac I’d have to use an external drive, which sort of defeats the point of having a neat and self-contained computer. ?But, I suppose my backup drives already do that . . .?Thanks. ?And well done to you and Pete. ?Dinosaur is good :-) Cheers Chris

开云体育It’s apparently not going to be a huge show but a couple of Spitfires and the Pitts Special are always worth a look, I feel. ?If you do go, and you see a couple (I’ve used this comparison before) who sort of resemble Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, that’s us! :DBest Susan
