Re: Australia fires

Oh my, Jude, that sounds very tense. I can’t believe people starting fires though - are they camping, or what? If the creek is dry… Crazy! ?Has anyone tried speaking to them, or is that too risky? You never know, with some folks. I wish we could send you some of our surplus rain!

John, thank goodness you are safe! You do have some dramas, don’t you? Watch out!

Re: Australia fires

Ok so far John thanks. Very dry. Tank water got low but we had one shower that topped us up a bit. But we have a decent bore about 300m from the house which pumps from 130ft down under and the water is good. We have been using it to top up the toilet cisterns which saves the drinking water and also we have been using it to top up the swimming pool. ?So we are better off than some people in our vicinity. ?Local Water truck delivery people are quoting up to six weeks to bring a load of drinking water - which is not a great help when you have small children I imagine. ?Loads of birds are clinging to us around the house for a handout and water. Our beautiful creek nearby is totally dry and stopped running at all. So how platypus and the likes are getting on I don't know. A hare has taken up residence in an old creamery shed - husband has surprised him but he didn't gallop off. A large snake has taken up residence in a pile of timber my husband has been working on in one shed. It started out as a big pile he has been taking nails out of but now the snake is down to four planks :-)?

I know it is not as exciting as your drug lab next door but we're all somewhat under no water stress. ?Air quality is a big worry for some. They reckon its been as bad as smoking 40 ciggies a day and worse than some town in India. ?But its been better today. ?We have set up a local messaging group locally so if a fire starts up the valley we will all message and be prepared. ?We have idiot town people turning up and starting fires in the creek bed would you believe in a total fire ban time.?
There's only one way out of here so we do have a fire plan and I have important papers, family history, and family photos packed and the cat cage and her papers at the front door, and suitcases prepared "in case". Lets hope not.?

Regards

Jude

The iPad was first heralded while we still had our business and were paying outselves monthly pocket money! I had been saving my pocket money for some time, as I knew Apple would come up with something nice, and I pre-ordered one as soon as I heard about it. I moved on, later, to an Air, now an Air 2 and also have Harvey’s cast-off Mini that still runs iOS 9 and is useful for older apps that won’t run on the latest iOS.

Re: iPad covers

That question was asked at the meeting but never seemed to get answered. Aluminium would be fairly lightweight. The battery in it might add a bit of weight. People at the meeting were trying to figure if the sum total of the iPad Pro and the case was more or less than MacBook Air and similar models. ?Probably on the website it might say for each individual iPad what the weight is. ?Weight is important if you travel things of course. We have some members who go to some very remote places with their gear. Me personally iPhone does everything I want on a short trip. I had a fortnight in UK in March - just took iPhone..?

Re: iPad covers

I have always thought iPads over rated and not changed my mind. Just as people buy one its already defunct pretty rapidly and people moving on to the next. ?Development on iPads( which is highly over priced) has resulted in neglect of the proper computers in my opinion. I blame Tim Cook of course. His heart is only in the money end of lightweight products like iPhones iPads watches -- the bottom line his only interest it seems.?

That is rather lovely, Jude!

My iPad is great for reading, the newspapers, pdfs, books and the Internet, of course. ?I’ve had iPad Mini for several years but grew tired of squinting at the screen; this iPad Air 64Gb is a speedy device, with a lovely screen and thinner than a credit card (hyperbole alert . . .).

But I love my MacBook as well. ?It’s great for photos processing while on the move and I can access files easily in the cloud (my iPad is a mobile data version and can provide good hotspot data.

That is certainly tempting, Jude. ?But I have to remind myself that my 12” MacBook is not much bigger than my iPad Air (10.5”) and it has its own keyboard. ?That means that, much as I’d like another gadget, I must content myself with my current lineup.

I was interested that the chap was so pleased with it compared with the Apple version.
