Re: In case its of interest --- re Catalina and iPhotos

I have hesitated to contradict you, Tag, but I can¡¯t imagine how iPhoto could be better than Photos; it must have lost something that you used, but it¡¯s a very powerful application in terms of photo manipulation. I know that you can do less in the way of rating an image, but there are other facilities in that respect.

When it comes to photo processing Photos is way superior, almost as good as Aperture once was. I don¡¯t use Photos exclusively, but I¡¯m much happier with it now that I¡¯ve used it for a couple of years. My main photo application is Capture One Pro, but I have little worry about using Photos.

Perhaps with use you¡¯ll come to get on with it, if not love it :-) There is plenty of advice online to help, if you have the time to use it (not a given, I know . . .).

Cheers

Chris

Have just updated to Catalina and have lost iPhoto. Luckily I am no longer working so this is not too much of a problem but certainly it is not as good as iPhoto. Still exploring Catalina but I have lost some excellent progs....

I had no idea I could have kept iPhoto going. I meekly updated it to Photos, which I¡¯ve been using for some time now, but which lost some of the useful features of iPhoto in the transition. This is not a good thing that Apple has done, blithely effectively destroying the functionality of apps that are popular and useful. It should not be up to outsiders to fix this. I suppose a partial, if not too convenient, answer is to keep older kit or to partition your drive into newer and earlier OSes; I don¡¯t even know if the latter is possible.
