Re: An Unusual Summer for the UK
开云体育We’re not looking forward to cold weather again, Jude, although it felt quite autumnal a couple of days ago. ?When it gets cold a lot of people will not be able to heat their homes as well as eat. ?We’re not in that situation, but now that we’re fully electric with a heat pump we will be a little stingier with the thermostat. ?In addition, we have bought a gas fire to heat the house when the power goes off in the middle of winter (Sod’s Law). And we have paraffin lamps for the dark nights without leccy.Turning off your devices sounds wise anyway, to reduct heating in the house. Chris

开云体育There is a fan control application for Macs; I have it in my old iMac and it tells you what the temperature is. I got it from Macupdate:?See what you think. Thanks Chris, yes we are now back to full function on our network and, most important, I am back to playing EverQuest! :D

Did you see there is a new MacBook Air out? I would not have noticed but I play Words With Friends on my iPad and each turn is punctuated by ads and the Apple one was freezing my game! I seem to recall this happening before, on an Apple ad, but it doesn’t take long to do a restart of WWF. Best Susan On 18 Jul 2022, at 19:03, zuiko via groups.io <ftog@...> wrote: |

We’re in good shape, thanks. The temps are high here in Dorset (33-34, according to our two thermometers) but the house is well insulated and we’re on the side of a hill which gets us whatever breeze is blowing. Had some good news a while ago (stop me if I’ve told you already :-)): my 2017 MacBook Retina 12” started playing silly buggers with the battery so I enquired of Apple if they would sort it out. It had had only 400 charge cycles and had gone below 80% capacity. The answer was, “yes”, and they sent a box for a courier to collect it. It was back within ten days and had had the logic board replaced as well as the battery. It’s as good as new! I’ll still get myself a new Air M2 when my boat comes in, but I’m very pleased. I hope that your network recovers . . . Cheers Chris On 17 Jul 2022, at 16:17, Purler <susan.platter@...> wrote: |
Re: An Unusual Summer for the UK
We have been having overnight and some mornings in single figures. We have electric blanket on, big heavy Doona on, log fire on on occasions. We've also had high winds and one of our big trees came down -- fortunately not on top of us driving out but it was there when we came back from an appointment and $5000 roughly to get it removed - what a job. My husband has been busy burning the monster stump so he's been keeping warm out there.?
When the temps get up here ( and it does it a lot in the sub tropics ) I turn my Mac off when it gets to about 33-35Deg C. We don't have aircon though the house stays pretty decent as its double brick and has 8ft verandahs all around (about a 40square roof area) which means we can walk about out there in all weathers under cover. ?We have talked about aircon particularly for the room where the computers are and our bedroom but have never done it. ?Sounds like the heat might have got to your gear particularly if you still had it running. ? I do photos with my little old iPhone SE and they're pretty good, but the new iPad takes very good photos. ?I do have a camera but its an ancient Canon Digital Rebel. Its software hasn't been supported in a while but I can rip the card out and put it in a card reader and transfer pix that way. My iPhone is first edition of the SE, husband has a 2nd edition one and its behaving brilliantly. ?Apple brought out a SE version 3, but by all accounts the battery on them is not wonderful. So I am thinking on the matter and the jump to the 13 S is big dollars. My favourite tech says not worth me changing battery at $75 - much better to put the money to a new phone. ? Jude |
An Unusual Summer for the UK
I suppose it must be autumn or even winter in Oz, Jude, and here we are in the usually damp and cloudy United Kingdom being warned to stay at home if we can, because of the heat! I’ve just been out in the garden, doing the annual Big Butterfly Count, and managed to snap a peacock butterfly sunning itself on the path. I’m a bit clumsy with the tiny buttons on my little digital camera, a Panasonic DC-TZ90 that I’ve had for a good while now. I accidentally set it to video but never realise I’ve done it until too late. Maybe I should RTFM a bit better!
We are only partly back online after an outage; the Mac side of things is working but we can’t access our network drive. The Windows side is still on the fritz. Oh, our router is a Fr!tzbox by the way! Funnily enough, when I returned to Facebook, it turned out that a number of our fellow villagers in Clyst St Mary had also experienced outages. Coincidence or not, I don’t know. I do hope everyone is thriving. Best Susan |
Re: Whats up with Safari
开云体育I was on Ancestry for a while but it’s our daughter who is more interested; I just provided some data that she asked for, via a DNA kit. ?As for Safari, yes, it does seem to be off its oats. Have you used Brave? I haven’t so far but Computeractive is quite keen on it. I’m using DuckDuckGo more for searches and feel very bold! ?:D?Best Susan On 1 Jul 2022, at 05:30, Judith Hall <glenidol@...> wrote: You sound like me. We cower in a little terraced house when it gets cold, so no insulation needed on either side!

Safari is dropping behind. Annoyingly it won’t open the DNA map on Ancestry and the other day Ancestry had something new showing where either parent DNA originated - wouldn’t open that either. Got fireplace set just in case we need to fry the house out. Jude On 8 May 2022, at 6:57 pm, zuiko <ftog@...> wrote: |

开云体育Thinking about it, I do sometimes get a rejection message on my iPad Air 2022 model while playing Words With Friends 2.?I copied everything over from my old iPad Air but I seem to have lost my identity completely for WWF2, which is annoying. I had prizes and facilities which have all disappeared. Best Susan On 5 May 2022, at 15:41, John Miller via <888richardmiller@...> wrote: Yes, I'm not to happy with Monterey John
