Re: WD drive problem -- think I may have found the answer
The WD HD is only 16 months. WD don¡¯t seem to be responding further. Maybe found the same info I did. Found on WD site it is no longer supported after Sierra. Meantime I have made a new TM on a new

Re: WD drive problem -- think I may have found the answer
Hi Don¡¯t worry about the format of the drive - the limitation comes from Time Machine rather than WD hardware (see this article - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mh15139/mac

Re: WD drive problem -- think I may have found the answer
I have been out and ?bought a 4tb Seagate drive that the Seagate website says is Mac and Time Machine friendly, and currently it is setting up as a new Time Machine for me. I figure this should be an

Re: WD drive problem -- think I may have found the answer
I find Disk Utility to be quite useful, in its limited way, but if the disk misbehaves I think it can send misleading information to the system which can fool Disk Utility. I use Disk Warrior as my

Re: WD My Book
Dear John/Hopalong, Gosh that is not good at all. I hope you are not in a lot of pain, as sciatica or similar sounds pretty unpleasant to have. A limp will also put more of a strain on your spine,

Re: WD My Book
My plan right now is to go out buy a new SSD portable drive and do a Clone, then I might reformat the 4tb My book drive and start it again as a TM. I had a weird hitch with the WD My Book two days

Re: WD My Book
Dear Jude, you can never have too many back-ups. Lost my CV & internal HD & 2 flash drives. Don't suppose it matters as I can't see me working in chemistry again. I doubt even academia would take me

Re: WD My Book
There¡¯s no lights on this model indicating its alive, unlike previous ones. The only reason I might know if its had a hissy fit and not turned on is if the HD icon doesn¡¯t show up on my desktop.

Re: WD My Book
Short version. Extra noise is probably not itself an indication of impending drive failure, and for tedious reasons quite hard to fix. A better thing to monitor is whether you actually see problems
