Re: Suspicious Emails

I agree with your feelings about getting a reliable techie to do the work; luckily we can afford to do that. ?When we arrived at Titan Computers, there was a row of maybe 8 or 10 27in iMacs on the counter - a beautiful sight! ?Harvey took in a fairly old MacBook Pro, over which he had spilled a glass of squash (!), to see what they can do with it. He was thinking of having an SSD put in it but Titan were not enthusiastic because of the Mac¡¯s age; there had also been an article in my Computeractive magazine making out that such an operation is not necessarily good value in an older laptop.

I wouldn¡¯t dare. Rather leave to my fav tech who has excellent dust proof area etc. He¡¯s not in Apple shops - independent business but fully qualified Apple Tech so machines under warranty are protected ?- only tech loose and out there during Covid. They worked out a scheme where he came into work 5pm when they¡¯d all gone no customers and he worked at night that way protecting him and his family of young kids and he worked right through covid restrictions.?

?You do need a sucker, Susan, but it¡¯s all explained on this site, together with tools for sale.?

This is just an example, of course; you¡¯d have to find your model.?

I suppose, if I¡¯d thought of it, I could have asked Titan Computers to put in an SSD while they had it in their workshop but that iMac is a ten-year-old model so perhaps it¡¯s best just to keep it going as it is. It has Winclone installed, plus my EverQuest game on the Boot Camp partition but, now I have the BeeLink and a monitor shared between it and the Mac Mini.

Did you need any special tools to swap that HD, to get the screen off? When the screen went down a second time, we looked into doing that and thought some kind of sucker tool was needed but we didn¡¯t want to risk doing damage inside which apparently is quite easy.
