Which cells are merged? 5
Hi, Using JAWS 2025 and m365. I¡¯m trying to figure out how to have JAWS tell me which cells are currently merged when I encounter them. Hitting Insert c just announces the top left cell reference. Any ideas? Thanks, Robin KeyCorp Public Business communications via text message are permitted only on KeyBanc Capital Markets business lines approved for that purpose. Reading voice issue is fixed 3
Well, I received another update a day or so ago, and my Read Aloud voice situation is now fixed, including the dialog that asked me to log in to an already signed in account. That is fixed, too. ~It's nice to have my smooth natural sounding female voice back again. Ann

Adding Symbols to Autocorrect and/or symbol keyboard shortcuts in MS-Word
1. Hit Alt + N, U, M [Insert Ribbon, Symbols, More Symbols] to open the Symbol dialog. 2. Navigate to the Special Characters tab. 3. In that tab, both the Paragraph and Section characters already exist in the list, but they do not have keyboard shortcuts assigned to them. There are quite a few special characters and symbols that exist in the list that do not have either a keyboard shortcut or autocorrect sequence assigned by default. Note: At this point you have two different options, assigning a shortcut key, assigning an autocorrect sequence, or you can end up doing both. I'll start with shortcut key: 4. Navigate to each in turn and activate the Shortcut key button that will open the dialog where you can assign a shortcut key just like you would for a desktop shortcut. You land in the box where you have to choose the Ctrl + Alt + {whatever} sequence that you want to use for that symbol. 5. Navigate to the Assign button and activate. The shortcut you chose will now insert the symbol to which you assigned it. If you wish to use an autocorrect sequence instead then follow these steps: 4. Navigate to each symbol in turn and activate the Autocorrect button. This opens the dialog for the symbol that has focus and allows you to type in a sequence that, when you type it, will cause autocorrect to insert that symbol [e.g. (c) is already assigned for the copyright symbol by default], and you could use something like (x) for the section symbol. After having typed the character sequence that should serve as the autocorrect trigger to insert the symbol . . . 5. Navigate to the Add button and activate to add the sequence and symbol to the autocorrect table. 6. Navigate to the OK button to close the Autocorrect dialog. Adding symbols in this way saves this information in your Normal.dot file so that all future files you create at a later date will recognize the keyboard shortcut and/or autocorrect sequence. -- Brian ¡¤ ¡á? ¡¤ ???? ¡¤ Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100; M365 Family; Android 13 (Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.10.0) It is much easier to be critical than to be correct. ~ Benjamin Disraeli, 1804-1881

Outlook Desktop - Control Plus 4 and Control+5 Not Working As Expected 4
Hi Running Windows 11 and Outlook on the desktop with latest version of JAWS I used to be able to go to the tasks/reminder list by pressing Ctrl+4 and Notes by pressing Ctrl+5. This keystroke command is now opening items on my Task Bar in the same way as pressing Windows Key+4 or 5 would. Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+3 is working as expected i.e. mail, calendar and contacts. I've also tested without JAWS running and the same behaviour occurs. Any ideas? Cheers Mark

The read aloud voice has changed and I hate it! 8
Hi everyone, I'm running the latest Windows1, and the latest Office365 versions. I got some windows and office updates a couple of days ago,and ever since then, I get this message from Microsoft each time I use the Read Loud feature. Oops! dialog To choose what voice you hear while using Read Aloud, sign in with your Microsoft account. OK Button I am already signed in to my account, but even restarting the app and/or windows, and logging out and back in again yields the same results. But, the most annoying thing is that since then, my read aloud voice has gone from a very nice, smooth natural sounding female back to the default robotic voices I have on my computer, and nothing i do seems to bring back the much more natural-sounding voice. This is beyond annoying, especially if I want to listen to a much larger document! does anyone have an idea what's up and how I can fix it? These default Microsoft David, Zira, and Hazel are driving me crazy! Thanks for any advice, ~Ann

Microsoft requests 4 digit pin every 15 minutes or so 22
Hi all. I¡¯ve just purchased a nice Lenovo laptop and a tech friend set much of it up for me. I didn¡¯t have the confidence to download and install Microsoft 365 by myself so my friend did this for me. However Microsoft now butts in every 15 minutes or so asking for my 4 didget pin number. Can anyone tell me how to lengthen the frequency of this request please. Very best wishes, Andy Logue.

Seeking Clarification on the New Outlook 5
Hi all, I know about the differences between Outlook Classic and the New Outlook when it comes to 365. Beyond that, I have a couple of questions: ¡¤ How does the free Outlook that is the successor to Windows Mail differ from the new Outlook? And how do you open it with Windows 11? ¡¤ Do users of paid versions of Office (2019, 2021, etc.) have ready access to the New Outlook And how do they get it? ¡¤ Is there a FAQ page anywhere that answers these questions? It would be good to be able to share such a page with others. Thanks for any clarifications you can give. Regards, David

severalquestions about using the New outlook
Hi all, My parents recently got a new desktop computer and while the tech was here setting it up I asked him to put my Microsoft account on the laptop that my dad baught off of my sister since he doesn¡¯t use it and so that I have a backup laptop. Anyway he activated M365 on it and outlook (New) was set as the default and I¡¯m not going to change it to classic since I know that it¡¯ll be the default on all future computers that I get so I figure I should learn how to use it while I still have the classic to switch back to if I really hate it. It found my outlook.com account and I was able to add my gmail account; is there any way to have both inboxes open at the same time and alt tab between them like I can in classic? Also I tried adding my ISP-created account but it told me that I may need an app password; is this now the norm for ISP accounts or do I need to contact our ISP and get them to do something on their end in order for me to be able to add it (I¡¯ve never needed an app password to add an account before)? Also are there settings for the send/receive interval etc. and if so how do I access them? Finally is there any way for me to have it set so that it makes a sound when I get an email but not have my screen reader (I have NVDA installed but I haven¡¯t decided if I¡¯ll install JAWS too) not tell me that I have a new email and read part of it? This latest version of Windows 11 24h2. Thanks for any/all guidance anyone can provide me. Madison

Auto scheduler with Outlook 11
Hello everyone, I use office 365. Does anybody have the instructions on how to use the auto scheduler with Outlook? Specifically, if you want to create a meeting with three other people, such as colleagues, the auto scheduler is supposed to display different days and times that all of you are available to meet. This really helps schedule meetings with multiple people to ensure that everyone has a time slot available on the calendar. The auto scheduler does the heavy lifting and finds the timeslots that everybody is free. If you have the steps on how to use it, please reply to this message. Thanks very much in advance! Thanks in advance. God bless, Roger Khouri On Mar 4, 2025, at 5:17 PM, Brian Vogel via groups.io <britechguy@...> wrote: ? On Tue, Mar 4, 2025 at 05:03 PM, Chris Smart wrote: Mike, that¡¯s how I¡¯ve always done it with either Jaws or NVDA. - I suspect that Mike's problem lies in one of several things: 1. He's typed too many characters and eliminated all options available from the AutoComplete list (sorted by recency of use). 2. He's typed the identifying information for someone who may be in contacts, but whom he's never actually sent anything. If you want someone from Contacts and they're not showing up using the usual AutoComplete technique we've both mentioned, then I'd Shift + Tab back to the BCC, CC, or To button (probably To) and activate it, which brings up the Search dialog for contacts, then enter part of the person's name or email address, hit Enter, and review the results (then select the appropriate one). After finding it you hit Enter twice (first time, select it, second time, go back to the message an populate the field you used for the search).

A huge problem with the syncing of folders in One Drive 15
Several days ago, my roommate, who is running Windows 10, tried to access a folder that we both share. Every time he would try to access that folder, it would open on the website. I found out that it was a link to one drive, not a shortcut to view this folder as a normal folder in Explorer. When you delete this type of shortcut, it just goes away, no fuss of any sort. If you go to the web, choose options for the folder in question and choose to add the shortcut again, it is still a web link. I've done various troubleshooting steps. Most recently, we unlinked his PC and re-linked it. NO difference after doing that. I'm not the only one with this issue. It's a huge thing out in the wild. Is anyone else on this list having similar issues? There is no fix, currently. Here's an article for further reading. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/one-drive-shared-folder-problem/1e206690-40ea-482f-af60-6ef83b5e580c It is possible some on this list have no issues with it opening to a folder on the web.

adding gmail to the new outlook
Hi. Well was able to then delete the current selected email and then put in my other gmail address. Then was able to then set up and then took me to the page where i could then login. Put in my password. Took a couple of goes, but eventually got my second email set up. So it is dooable with jaws 2025, windows 11. Pity no rules or show other contacts in the list. Wont even populate when i type in a new email. Have given feedback to microsoft. The outlook on the web and feedback. See what they come back with. Pity no way to get to properties. And some times it will say 1 message. Then the other folders, when i moved all the messages, says nothing. And wish there was rules. A great app. Was able to then import my contacts, edit the list, delete contacts, add a contact. And then export. marvin.

Locked Announcement Only: Simple Ways to Recognize Scam Email Messages
What follows can be downloaded: Simple Ways to Recognize Scam Email Messages.docx While definitely not M365 or Office related, I have recently had a client almost fall for a scam email, and she had recalled this advice I'd given her in the past, so I thought it bore sharing here. Simple Ways to Recognize Scam Email Messages 1. First and foremost, does the email address the message is from match where it claims to be coming from? If you receive a message claiming to be from Amazon, then the from address will contain ¡°amazon.com¡± after the at sign, somewhere. From Microsoft it will contain ¡°microsoft.com.¡± The general principle applies that any email message from any major company will contain its domain name after the at sign. This is by far and away the easiest way to recognize a scam message. If a message is made to look like it¡¯s from Citibank, but the return address is something like edna.kornblatt@..., you can be absolutely sure it¡¯s not from Citibank. If a message originates from anywhere other than the domain name you¡¯d expect for where it claims to be coming from, it is a scam! Just delete it and forget it. 2. If the email has one or more of the following characteristics: a) A generic greeting or your name is misspelled in the greeting b) Has incorrect logos or a logo (or any other thing) that ¡°seems off¡± c) Contains obvious spelling and/or grammatical errors d) Contains links to websites you don¡¯t recognize or if it has hyperlinks, e.g. Citibank, where the URL itself points to a completely different site. (Note how the one I created points to the main site for Citibank, Credit Cards, Banking, Mortgage, Personal Loans | Citi.com). e) Includes attachments, particularly ZIP files, and asks you to download and unzip them Messages with any one of the above are virtually certain to be scam messages. NEVER click on the links they contain or download the attachments. Delete them and forget them. 3. Does the message try to prod you into immediate action, claiming any sort of urgency? For example, is there a claim that if you don¡¯t respond that law enforcement will become involved or that a relative is in trouble or something similar? Messages that try to scare you into acting without thinking are scams. Delete them and forget them. 4. Does the message offer something that seems ¡°too good to be true,¡± e.g. money in exchange for a favor (like allowing cash to be deposited to your bank account), that you¡¯ve won a lottery you never entered, or offer a job with an unbelievable rate of pay for the work? Messages that seem ¡°too good to be true¡± are scams. Delete them and forget them. 5. Does the message try to get you to provide personal, credit card or account information via email, text or phone? [Even if it appears to be from a legitimate company you do business with.] Messages that attempt to get you to reveal personal and financial information are scams. Delete them and forget them. If you really want to put your mind at ease if you believe one might be real, the way to verify that is to log in to the account the message appears to be from by hand. So, if the message appears to be from your credit card account holder, open your web browser and enter the web address for that company by hand (or from your personal bookmarks), and log in. If the message is legitimate, the same message will appear in your account message center. If there is no corresponding message in your account message center, then congratulations, you¡¯ve successfully avoided falling for a scam!
