On the other hand, I have noticed a new app on Microsoft Store that it is getting updated now, it is called Microsoft 365 ?Copilot and it is a stand alone app different from Copilot although I don’t know exactly what it does. These things do sometimes vary by region, but I can't imagine the one in Canada is not the same as the US.? For me, that page toward the bottom has a Switch Plan button if I want to switch to M365 Family Classic.? That is the downgrade, as straight M365 Personal or Family will keep Copilot AI with a $30/year cost increase as of the date of your next renewal.

Several basic points:

1. One can move between subscription levels (for lack of a better way of putting it) in M365 Personal or Family at will.? It's unfortunate that the method used to do so involves canceling one's current subscription and picking up another, as that does imply an interruption in service, but there is no interruption of service.? Only if you cancel - just cancel - and don't pick up a different subscription level will you lose service.? If you follow the previously posted instructions to cancel your existing M365 service, and during that process enroll in the Classic level, then things just stay as they are and your billing will remain as it is, with the same services as you currently have, at the point of your next renewal date.? Ahead of that date the main subscriber still has the free trial.

2. M365 Personal and Family, even if they expire, allow 30 days (as of this writing) of access to OneDrive for the now-expired subscription in read-only mode so that existing data can be downloaded.? After that 30 days passes, it's gone.? If you re-up during that 30 days, you just have read-write access to OneDrive restored.

I am not the owner of our family subscription, my husband is. I don't mind that I won't have access to copilot. We haven't started the process, but I want to have all my ducks accounted for before I do. If we cancel our subscription, in order to downgrade to Classic, I assume we will lose everything in our separate OneDrives, so we need to back them up somewhere first, correct? Also, if my husband does do process first, I will lose my access at that time and he will need to add me on to the new account, yes? I pologize if these seem obvious questions, i just want to have thought this through before we go into it. Thanks for any clarifications you can provide.?

On the subject of subscription rates:? Most of us can only comment on Microsoft's rates for "the general public" based on our place of residence.? Programs like the mentioned by William James are negotiated between the employer and Microsoft and are supposed to be (in theory, anyway) only available to employees.? I say in theory mostly because most who subscribe through these do not terminate their own subscription through such arrangements if they change jobs, and I've never know of one to be terminated by Microsoft or the now-former employer.
?
If you've got a rate below what's offered to the general public through any of Microsoft's discount programs I'd await some sort of communication from Microsoft about what rate changes, if any, will occur at your next renewal date and/or whether or not Copilot will become part of your subscription.? Since Copilot remains a "per seat" subscription for business, I am doubting that the subscriptions offered through Workplace Discount are going to have Copilot AI integration, as it would probably still be an add-on.

I stand corrected on my comment that Copilot only works with the New Outlook. But it appears this only works from within Microsoft email accounts such as outlook.com. If I am right this time, it seems to be of limited value if your primary email account is Gmail or something other than an MS account. When I tried to start up Copilot from my Gmail account, nothing happened. When I asked it to summarize my Gmail messages from within my Outlook email account, it said this was not possible. I have never experienced almost the totality of all the issues continuously reported in this mailing list or other forums using Outlook classic, e.g., issues synchronizing Gmail accounts, attaching files from explorer, messages containing links, images, tables, incoming messages not syncing as expected, clumsiness navigating lists of messages, client sending legit messages into the junk folder, and a long etc. Question that rises up is why? I think I did that correct when I was playint with this. I'm
curious to run my notes from a class I took through this as I
didn't spell check or nothign, ok I did, but i transcribed the
lectures and have about 10 pages for 6 hours of classes. I'm very
interested now. or take a? transcript and run that through. Hmm.

proofreading feature. I clicked the "prompt" button after
selecting my text, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to work,
as I didn't notice any changes in my text after going through
my five pages of notes. I'll read the article later since I'm
not quite alert enough to fully understand what I'm reading
right now. Haha. I'm really enjoying what I've seen so far.

specify what kind of errors or mistakes you want to focus
on. For instance, sometimes, being a non native speaker, I
ask Copilot to correct any expression in terms of
pragmatics, but one can actually do it for any other
linguistic category, world-choice, refined vocabulary,
punctuation, etc.

PowerPoint:

1.????? Creating presentations from a
document.? Now, when you launch Copilot and choose a blank
template, PowerPoint will prompt you to choose among two
or three options, one of these being create a presentation
from a file. The Copilot pane will pop up, so all you have
to do is completing the instruction that reads, “create a
presentation from the following file,” or something like
that. Followed this instruction, I paste the link of the
document. This file must have been saved in OneDrive.

There are many other ways in
which Copilot in M365 is helpful, but it is for the user
to be discovered according to their own needs.? Remember
that Copilot will give you back what you asked for, so
prompts are quite essential to get the results you expect.

I'll take issue with this assertion, but only "at the edges" rather than its core truth. When it comes to AI prompts to do anything, generally speaking, what you say is true, without question.? But, and it's an important one, it is possible to, at times, get overly specific, and that gets you a result not precisely like you wanted. You have to then play with the prompt to remove what you suspect was "overly specific" to allow a freer hand. Also, if she really wants the equivalent of a separate partition, then you could set up folders under OneDrive Personal outside of the libraries, and then save user data there.

I don't do that except for folders I've created specifically to share with other OneDrive users, where those folders act like a thumb drive in the cloud.? If I plop a file in that folder, those with whom I've shared it have instant (or almost, it has to sync) access to what I just put in it, and vice versa.? This is one of the really nice features of OneDrive when multiple people who are not necessarily even in the same OneDrive family, but all of whom are OneDrive users, need to have access to a file or need to share very large files that are impractical to attach to email messages.? I just ripped several albums earlier today and, after applying MP3Gain Album Gain to all of them, plopped the results in my sharing folder with my partner so he could just snag them directly into his music library.? No thumb drive or SD card or 3rd party file sharing service needed.

Which, I have to say, is really unnecessary, particularly if those logical drives are partitions of one physical drive.? If that physical drive fails, everything fails, not just one partition.? Your best bet (for any you) as a home user is to stick to the default configuration that M365 sets up for OneDrive as far as Documents, Photos, & Music libraries go.? If you really don't want something in one of those libraries, provided you create a subfolder under your own OneDrive Personal folder on the computer it automatically syncs to OneDrive in the cloud.

I have 16 folders that I created under OneDrive, and one for my Portable Programs in particular, that all sync to OneDrive.? This makes it possible for me to call any of my portable programs on any machine where I'm logged in and using OneDrive, because the Portable Programs folder is shared and synced among all of them.

Onedrive: backing up all folders to it
Hi all,
My wife has a Dell precision 5060 laptop running windows 11 pro. She is a
subscriber to my Microsoft office 365 family plan.
She has the laptop's hard drive partitioned into 3 separate partitions.
Drive c is the operating system drive and drives d and e are for data.
She wants to save her files on different drives but wants to backup
everything to one drive.
Can this be done or does everything going to one drive have to be saved in
the username\"documents and settings"\onedrive folder?
One way I was thinking of doing this is to simlink the other drives to the
onedrive folder. Would that work? Would subfolders be captured?
Is there a better way?
She wants onedrive for features like version history. The different drives
are in place so that we separate the operating system from data.
