Re: Say Caps
开云体育Hello Stanley: ? A nice feature of NVDA is configuration profiles (NVDA+Control+p). You can alter the behavior of NVDA so that it is configured differently for each application, so if you want it to speak the Caps only in Word, you can do this. I have set NVDA up in Outlook to not announce tables, which are traditionally only used for formatting html messages. It is a feature worth investigating so you can customize NVDA for each of the office applications and it will dynamically switch as you switch applications. ? rick ? Welcome To This New List
I wanted to welcome all of you to this list. I also want to thank you for choosing to subscribe, considering the large number of groups which are available and which always competes with our time and attention.
I realize that there are a ton of technology-related groups out there for blind users and creating yet another one risks further fragmentation. However, about a week ago I ran into a situation where I needed assistance in performing a task with Outlook and I just couldn't figure out the best list to post it to. It wasn't specifically a Windows issue nor was it a screen reader specific question. I realized that what we needed (at least, what I believed that we needed) was a group to ask questions specific to Office, which is why I created this list. The large number of subscribers to this list in such a short period of time confirms that I may have been correct about the need for such a list but time will tell if I'm right or not in the long term. In the meantime please continue to enjoy this list and use it for its intended purpose for as long as you feel it's useful to you. No question is too basic and, while I know this may be an overly used expression, there really is no such thing as a stupid question. I just ask that you follow the rules for this list. Be courteous, try to make your subject lines detailed and be sure to specify the version of the software you're asking about, as in JAWS 2020, Word 2019, Windows 10, etc. JAWS 2020 users are encouraged to update to the August release. JAWS updates often add improvements and fixes to the way that it interacts with Office products and this is also the case for Zoomtext. NVDA users should update to version 2020.2, as well. Finally, please be aware that the first few messages from users need to be approved by me before they get posted to the list. This is a default setting with the Groups.io service. Because I'm working during the day I won't be able to approve users until this evening and so there may be a delay in seeing messages being posted. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding. Finally, I hope that this list proves to be a benefit to you and that it helps you to learn more about how to best use Microsoft Office. Wishing you the best. -- David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 WWW.DavidGoldfield.org |
Re: Having JAWS 2020 Speak Capital Letters With Microsoft Word 2016
开云体育>>I want JAWS 2020 to say the word Cap instead of hearing
pitch for Capital Letters.
This can be done by editing a speech and sounds scheme.
1. Press insert-6 (on the numbers row) for the JAWS Settings center. 2.? In the edit field enter "scheme" without the quotes and press down arrow. 3. Look for "Modify Schemes" and press the space key. 4. You can either choose an existing scheme or create a new one. Creating a new one might be preferable in case of any unintended changes. You could call it "Stanley's Test" or something similar. 5. Tab to edit the selected scheme and press space. 6. Navigate to the Misc page. Pressing shift-ctrl-tab should take you to this page. 7. In the list press the letter C and you should move to "caps speak text using single cap voice. 8. Tab to the radio buttons. 9> Press up arrow and select the "speak item" radio button. 10. Tab a few times until you are in an edit field labeled "text." Type "cap" or whatever you want your prefix to be. 11. Tab to OK. 12. You may need to tab to another OK button. You will be asked
if you'd like to save the settings. Say yes and see if this does
what you want. David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 On 9/3/2020 9:07 AM, Stanley Haupt via

Having JAWS 2020 Speak Capital Letters With Microsoft Word 2016
开云体育Hello Everyone: ? I want JAWS 2020 to say the word Cap instead of hearing pitch for Capital Letters. I have not been successful to get this to work with Microsoft Word 2016. ? Before I switch to JAWS, I was using Window-Eyes. They had a feature in their menu system that you could have the program say Cap with Microsoft Word. ? I have not been successful to get this to work from email that I have asked how to make this work. If you know how this can be accomplished, please send details how to make this happened. ? Thank you ? Stanley Haupt |

Re: USING POWERPOINT
开云体育Steph, a for NVDA exists from NV Access. For JAWS users also offers a tutorial covering JAWS and Powerpoint.
