Hello all,

Perhaps someone on this list can provide some help. I have an iPhone SE 2020 running the latest version of iOS. I am also running Office 2016 on my Windows 10 computer. When I enter appointments on my laptop, they don’t show up in my phones calendar. I get the same result when entering an appointment on my phone, not showing in Outlook’s calendar. I’m running iCloud for Windows and mail, contacts and calendars are check. I’m having no trouble with mail and contacts, only Calendar.

If anyone has pointers, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi,

?

I Have a table which is three columsn wide.

I Have changed the page orientation to landscate to try to make the table more readable e.g. stop the cells wrapping around.

It is still wrapping, is there something in the table properties that I can use so that it will automatically format the table and try to stop some of the wrapping around rather than having to set each column width?

Miscellaneous Questions

Ron Kolesar

For those who attempted to help me out, I deeply appreciate the help that
was given.
I was on the phone with the disability help desk for about two hours.
Now four last questions.
At least I hope so. SMILES.
1. I know it is either ctrl and the letter d and or via the small delete key
that's on the calculator keypad will delete messages.
2. But how can one kill off mailboxes AKA folders?
I tired to use the applications key to down arrow to the delete with no luc,
and I've tried without using the applications key to use just the delete key
and a ctrl d combo, as well with no success.
If I could figure out how to kill off some folders and only leave the
important folders as I rebuild my mailboxes would be deeply appreciated.
I at least have move all of my mail back into the inbox for now.
3. Can anyone help me to create a message rule once again?
When in WLM the first column that was in the rule I always made sure that
where the to or cc line contains people was always checked.
I'd like to be able to do message rules within outlook as well.
4. One last item.
Can anyone also assist me in creating a signature aka tag line as well?
Again, with deep appreciation for all of the help.
Ron who's still learning how to use the outlook mail package

I will believe this when I see it, literally.? ?A throwaway line in a blog, even one of the officially sanctioned Microsoft blogs, is just that.

Until or unless I see a major formal announcement from the Microsoft Office Development Team, I take this with a huge grain of salt.? It would be a 180-degree reversal of a trajectory that's been a juggernaut for several years now.? That is exceedingly rare for Microsoft.

Canadians always needed to pay an annual price, not monthly subscription price.? For one user it was $69.95 per year I believe or $119.95 for 5 users per year.? I muse how this will impact Canadians??

New Microsoft Office won't require you to pay for a subscription - CNET

A 2021 version of Microsoft Office won't require a subscription.

Microsoft

will release a new, flat-price version of its Office productivity software in 2021, moving away from the subscription service model it introduced earlier this year, according to a Tuesday from the company. The post, first spotted by , only includes one line about the software, but it's pretty clear: " will also see a new perpetual release for both Windows and Mac, in the second half of 2021."?

In April, Microsoft transitioned Office 365 into , a subscription service that added more features to the suite of software tools, but required a monthly payment of $6.99 for an individual plan or $9.99 for a family of up to six people. While you can use Microsoft 365 apps like Word, PowerPoint and and Excel with limited functionality, you'll need either a perpetual version or a subscription to take full advantage of their capabilities.

Outlook for Windows to get Editor support, native translator, and text predictions

Outlook for Windows to get Editor support, native translator, and text predictions

Microsoft today announced that Outlook for Windows will be getting several new features later this year. Editor, Immersive Reader, Translator and Text predictions are the features that will be rolling out before the end of this year. You can find more details about these features below.

Microsoft Editor:

Instead of a simple spell check, Outlook for Windows will take advantage of Microsoft Editor. Similar to the experience available on Microsoft Word, you can get spell check, grammar corrections and writing style suggestions.

In addition to spelling corrections, Editor offers synonyms that you can choose from or choose to ignore.? Editor also suggests to double check potential errors and provides refinement options for your to consider that may make your writing more concise and clear.

Immersive Reader:

A new command in the Simplified Ribbon will allow you turn it on Immersive Reader so you can customize your experience based on your needs including text spacing, line focus, page color and column width all from a new, dedicated contextual tab.

Text Predictions:

Text predictions feature will suggest the text you might want to type next based on context and machine learning. It will save you time by making it faster to respond to emails.

Translator:

Until now, you have to install Microsoft Translator add-in to get translations in Outlook for Windows. With the upcoming update, Microsoft is building Translator natively into the application and it will be available in the December timeframe.?Just like in Outlook on the web, Outlook for Windows will detect messages you receive in a different language than your own mailbox language and will ask you if you’d like it translated. You can also choose to automatically translate messages when it is received in a different language.

Re: outlook calendar and sharing

开云体育

In addition you can also press control-tab to move to the next calendar that is being shared and shift-control-tab to move to the previous calendar.

Depending on your perspective this may or may not be easier than pressing f6 or shift-f6.

When you're viewing someone else's calendar you might not see the name or title of their appointment but you will see when they do have appointments and your screen reader will hopefully identify whether they are listed as busy or tentative. I know this is my experience when I browse calendars that are shared by managers on my team. The inability to see the titles of appointments makes sense as a VP might want people who are sharing his calendar to know that he is busy but not necessarily who he's meeting with or what the meeting is about.

Marsha,

I’m new at this too, but I just had some training on the calendar. The key f6 cycles between the tree view of all the calendars you can check and uncheck to show individually, the navigation bar, the ribbon, the status bar, and each individual calendar you are viewing. So my understanding is that if you cycle through with f6 and read the titles, you’ll know where you are and won’t have to look at multiple calendars simultaneously.

If an individual uses a outlook calendar but then someone shares their calendar with them. How does one view their own calendar, with the new persons calendar layered on top? Or what if your looking at multiple calendars all at the same time. Or does one have to view one calendar and then another persons one at a time? This would make it hard to figure out what dates and times would work for a group. I know that other applications can be used for that, but I am also thinking about ease.

Hi once again from new Outlook 2019 user Ron Kolesar.
Now the good news is that I can do a ctrl y and then either via first letter
nav or down arrowing, I can 1. see all of my mailboxes.
2. When down arrowing down the list of boxes, I can see how many messages
are unread in the mailboxes as well.
When I go to my inbox, it automatically opens for me and I can see and read
all of the messages within that folder.
Now for the bad news
But when I down arrow to the Ron's mailbox, I see how many messages are in
the box and how many are still unread.
But it:
1. Doesn't automatically open up the mailbox so that I may see all of my
mail.
2. So, I can't click on any of the messages to read them.
Any thoughts on why I can only read the mail that's in the inbox?
Many thanks.
Ron who was hoping that Outlook 2019 was as easy as WLM was.

Mario, I'm not going to reply to any more of these because they are, for this group, off topic.

I've been a computer technician for decades now, and I can state with very great assurance that there does not exist any utility or Windows command that reliably (or even usually) returns the actual model number for any computer.? And I have asked whether anyone knows of one on many tech geek groups many times over the years.? None of "the usual suspects" works.? That's why I say, and say again, that if you want to be sure of your model number have a sighted assistant identify it on the information sticker on the machine itself.

Enhancements in JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion 2021 Public Beta 2
?
The following is a list of improvements made between Public Beta 1 and Public Beta 2. Note that while many customer-reported enhancements are included
in this release, the following is a list of more notable changes.
?
Automatic Message Reading in Outlook 365
?
When you open a message from the Inbox in Outlook 365, JAWS and Fusion will now immediately begin reading the message contents without reading the title
or header information. Currently, messages are not automatically read if you ALT+TAB to an open message, or you press ENTER on a message in the Inbox that
is already open.
?
To further customize how messages are read, open Quick Settings (INSERT+V) while in Outlook, search for "message," and configure any of the resulting options.
A few items you might want to change include:
?
list of 3 items
? Message Header Field with Message Announcement: Turn this option on if you want JAWS and Fusion to announce the sender's email address and the subject
of the message when a message opens or gains focus.
? Messages Automatically Read: Turn this option off if you do not want JAWS and Fusion to automatically read messages when they are opened.
? Speak Window Titles For Read-only Messages Automatically: Turn this option on if you want JAWS and Fusion to announce the title of the message window
when a message opens or gains focus.
list end
?
Enhancements in JAWS 2021 Public Beta 2
list of 13 items
? Added a new Settings Center and Quick Settings option called "Pan Text by Paragraph" which is off by default. When enabled, JAWS sends an entire paragraph
to the braille display instead of only the current line as you navigate web pages and documents. This can help improve the flow of reading when panning
through text as you are less likely to encounter large amounts of empty space on the display when you reach the end of a line. You should now only encounter
blank space if you reach the end of a paragraph, and you would move to the start of the next paragraph when panning again.
? While in a Zoom meeting, you can now press CTRL+SHIFT+T to find out who is currently talking. Zoom recently added this option with CTRL+2 but we were
previously using it for a JAWS feature.
? When using the Voice Assistant in JAWS, you can now quickly specify whether or not JAWS listens for the wake word by pressing INSERT+ALT+SPACEBAR twice
quickly. Whether the wake word is on or off, you can always press this keystroke one time to have JAWS start listening for a voice command.
? In the Sound Control Panel applet, resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not reading as expected in the list views on the Playback and Recording pages.
? Addressed a reported issue where the JAWS settings Import/Export feature was not working as expected when using Windows folder redirection.
? The default graphics verbosity for JAWS is now to read only labeled graphics as it is no longer as important for JAWS to read graphics that are not labeled.
If you encounter a situation where you need to read unlabeled graphics, or you do not want to hear graphics at all, open Settings Center and search for
Graphics Verbosity.
? JAWS no longer automatically disables the "Show animations in windows" setting while running.
? Added five new Japanese voices to the Add/Remove Voices utility, which allows you to sample and download Vocalizer Expressive 2 voices for use with JAWS,
ZoomText, and Fusion.
? When using CTRL+DELETE or CTRL+BACKSPACE to delete by word in Office 365, resolved an issue where JAWS was too verbose.
? Resolved a reported issue with Windows 10 Insider Builds where Outlook becomes unusable with JAWS after leaving your system idle for a long period of
time.
? Resolved an issue where a user had over 200 entries in a JKM (Keyboard Manager) file, causing some commands to not work as expected. We now have extended
the number allowed.
? Fusion and JAWS 2021 will now interrupt reading when you press the WINDOWS Key to open the Start Menu.
? Resolved an issue with navigating to the configuration editor in Thunderbird Email when running JAWS or Fusion.
list end
?
Enhancements in ZoomText 2021 and Fusion 2021 Public Beta 2
list of 4 items
? When installing ZoomText 2021 or Fusion 2021, you can now migrate your settings from an older ZoomText or Fusion release (for example, releases 2020
or 2019) to the latest ZoomText 2021 release. This includes features such as magnification level, color, pointer, cursor, and mouse enhancements, and any
custom settings you created for applications.
? Resolved a ZoomText tracking issue in InfoConnect. This is an application used by IRS employees.
? Resolved several issues in Outlook 2016 and Outlook 365:
list of 4 items nesting level 1
? Focus enhancements and tracking now work correctly in the Select Names: Contacts dialog.
? The cursor enhancement is no longer visible while selecting text in a message.
? The cursor enhancement is now visible when you navigate to a link in a message.
? Addressed other focus enhancements issues when navigating various panes in Outlook 2016.
list end nesting level 1
? Voice Assistant can now be enabled or disabled using the Voice Assistant check box in the Startup Wizard.
list end

Take care and stay safe.? Mike.

Why can't I read my mail in my Ron's Mailbox?

Ron Kolesar

Hi once again from new Outlook 2019 user Ron Kolesar.
Now the good news is that I can do a ctrl y and then either via first letter
nav or down arrowing, I can
1. see all of my mailboxes.

Paul,

What is the make and model of your laptop?

In a great many, but not all, systems this must be turned on or off in BIOS.? Lenovo, I believe, and at least one other major brand (not HP, as that's what I have and know it's a BIOS-based toggle) have utilities that let you toggle media keys/hot keys off within Windows itself.

Part of the problem is determining what the maker in question calls this feature, as it has different names, making it hard to web search for the turn-on/turn-off method if you don't know what your computer manufacturer calls the feature.

Re: Need some help learning outlook 2019.

Hi Ron,
I have just been transitioning from using Outlook 2013 to Outlook 2016 so
will tell you a few things here with the caveat that I don't own Outlook
2019. However, I have been using Outlook from the 2007 version and things
don't change that much from version to version so hopefully much of this
will help you.

To make a rule, you first make the new folders you want the incoming mail to
go to. It is pretty much like standard Windows procedure, you go to your
folders list within Outlook, go one level in the hierarchy above where you
want the folder to be, press the applications (context) key, arrow down
and choose new and give the folder a name. Also at the one level up in the
hierarchy, you can press the applications key again and in the choices there
is one to alphabetize A-Z all the folders one level down from where your
focus is, so after you make all your different folders you'll want to
alphabetize them so you can do the first letter navigation.
Now to make the rule itself, go to the Inbox or whatever mailbox all your
mail flows into, then I believe you press alt f I r n which stands for file
info > rule > new which starts your process to make a new rule.
There's a lot to be filled out but you can tab around and figure things out
yourself. I recently subscribed to this list and so my rule was any mail
which had [office-accessibility] somewhere in the subject line, move it to
and then there's a place where you choose the folder you want the rule to
deposit the mail to. Works great.

I'll leave it to others to answer all your specific questions, but some
other things I would say are:
To work well with Jaws navigation, you want to have the part of the display
where beginning of each email is previewed hidden. Probably this is in the
view (alt v) menu, but I can't remember. If you hear something like message
preview, toggle that to off and Jaws will work better.

The application key is your friend. Sit on a message in your mailbox list of
messages and press it and arrow down through the choices, and you'll see
reply, reply to all, etc.
Commonly used keystrokes beyond what you've mentioned are:
Ctrl + r starts a reply to a message, and ctrl + f starts a forward.
To attach a file, alt n, a f works for me.
Yes, alt + s sends a message. I prefer ctrl + m to F9 for fetching my email
as I like keeping my hands down near the main rows of typing.
Another frequently used keystroke command to memorize is ctrl + shift + v.
This is when you want to move a message from one folder to another, most
commonly of course when a message comes into your inbox. You press ctrl +
shift + v and then choose from your folder list which folder to file it away
in.
Basically you tab and shift + tab around the major display of Outlook.
The search query box is also super important. You can search a single word
or do a multiple word search like this:
Word#1 AND Word#2 AND Word#3 with the and's in capital letters and then
shift tab a couple of times back to the search results, to have a narrow
search where you know multiple words are in the message.
I apologize if anything I've written is different in 2019 compared to 2016.
I have never used WLM but if you are an experienced Jaws user I predict you
will be very happy with Outlook.

Subject: [office-accessibility] Need some help learning outlook 2019.
Importance: High

Hello, from long time JAWS user Ron Kolesar.

Kolesar16417@... <mailto:Kolesar16417@...>

In short, I've been a Windows live mail user and love WLM.

But WLM is starting to crash user's mail left and right.

I tried u sing Thunder Bird and didn't like
it.

So, I'm learning how to use outlook 2019 with jaws.

In short, when I do a message rule within WLM, in the first column I down
arrow until I see where to and cc line contains people, which I make sure is
checked.

My first question here is, is there something similar to the above from WLM
within outlook?

Also, could you walk me through to set up a rule for each of my
subscriptions?

For example, when you reply to this letter, you'll go into the Ron's
Mailbox, because, the kolesar16417@...
<mailto:kolesar16417@...> address is triggered to go to the
Ron's Mailbox.

I also have a mailbox for each of all of my subscriptions as well.

Here's hoping I can learn how to use outlook 2019 like I did with WLM.

I need to desperately learn a third party mail package because the mail part
of Spectrum AKA Roadrunner mail isn't all that screen reader friendly.

So far, I found out via a few you tube videos that to send and receive is f9
and to simply send is alt s.

I also figured out to go to the different mailboxes AKA Folders, we do a
ctrl y then we're able to do first letter navigation.

But for now, I need to go to the wLM address book, because even though I had
the accessibility help desk assist me in setting up outlook and my contacts,
I still can't use my first few auto fill for pluggin in an address.

How can I turn that featur on, within outlook 2019?

Also, for all of my fellow ham radio friends, I have their call sign in the
nickname field and I then can simply start typing in the call sign and the
name and address pops up with in the to field so that I may then go to
subject and body to write the letter.

Can anyone help me with this as well?

Within WLM it is f5 to send and receive and in outlook it is f9.

Within WLM to go down to each of your mailboxes, you simply just down
arrowed.

Is there a easier way to go to a folder within outlook other than doing a
ctrl y then the first letter of the title of the folder?

How to create a mailbox AKA folder and subfolders as well?

I have a few extra folders when I perform the ctrl d and or simply just the
delete key on the calculator keypad doesn't remove the folder.

Now, I can removed messages, but can't remove folders.

How can I remove the extra folders?

In WLM, I only had to press the little delete key on the calculator keypad.

Now I've tried ctrl and the letter D like I found, but that only deletes
messages and not extra mailboxes.

Now, also, how can I tell if the mailbox should be in the list of folders?

For example, I have a send folder, a send items folder and a send mail
folder.

Which one of the three above should I kill if any?

Also, I need to have my signature AKA tag line at the bottom of my mail as
well.

Many thanks from a JAWS user who's trying to learn a new mail package.
