I should accurately have said that Office is a cluster of programs rather than "a program," but the general principles apply.? M365 is a lot more than just the next generation of Office.? Microsoft did muddy the waters a bit, though, with Office 2024 (and for all I know, possibly 2021, but I don't have either of those standalone versions) by integrating AutoSave functionality that interfaces with the free Personal OneDrive or Personal OneDrive where the user has purchased additional cloud storage space for OneDrive.??

If you're buying additional space for OneDrive, particularly if you're purchasing more than 100GB of additional space, it's almost certain that a subscription to M365 Personal or Family will be more econmomical, since you get 1TB of OneDrive space per seat (one for Personal, and up to six for Family).
