Is there a way to get copilot to help with writing a letter?

Yes.? And what I'm about to propose is pretty much necessary in these early days of AI assistance in Office, and that's using AI searches for tips on how to use the AI assistance.? I asked the standalone Copilot App (though I could have used ChatGPT, Perplexity.ai, etc.), "How do I use Copilot in Word to help write a letter?"? ?Here's the answer it provided (and note, in this early stage, with things changing quickly, small bits are inaccurate and require tweaking):

Using Copilot in Word to compose a letter is straightforward and efficient! Here's how you can do it:
-
Start a New Document: Open Word and create a new blank document.
-
Draft with Copilot: Look for the "Draft with Copilot" box. [Note: this is inaccurate.? It's been replaced by the Copilot button in the Home ribbon, once activated and the Copilot sidebar opens, there is an edit box for the Copilot prompt.? You can also hit Alt + I in the blank document to open the Draft with Copilot box instead.] Here, you can type a prompt describing the letter you want to compose. For example, you could write, "Compose a formal business letter requesting a meeting."
-
Generate Content: Click "Generate," and Copilot will create a draft based on your input. You can review the draft and choose to keep it, regenerate it for a different version, or discard it.
-
Fine-Tune the Draft: If you want to adjust the tone, style, or content, you can provide additional instructions in the compose box. For example, you might say, "Make it more concise" or "Add a polite closing statement."? [Hit the Generate Content button after you give Copilot the refinement prompt.]
-
Enhance Existing Content: If you already have a draft, Copilot can help refine it. Use the "Inspire Me" feature to expand on your ideas or improve the flow.
-
Reference Files: If you want Copilot to use specific files as a reference, you can upload them or mention them in your prompt. This is especially useful for creating letters based on existing templates or documents.
Remember, Copilot is there to assist, but you'll need to review and personalize the draft to ensure it fits your needs perfectly. You can find more details on .
Let me know if you'd like help crafting a specific letter!

I stuck some quick notes I made inside square brackets in the instructions.? It's the first time I played with Copilot at all in word and, on the whole, the instructions are reasonably accurate, if not perfect. It never hurts to try several different AI search engines for instructions such as this because they all rely on Large Language Models that have different resources from which they draw.
