Doing the SYNC update with LTSPICEXVII 64/32 and LTSPICEIV

..just found this one out.

NO I didn't get any help from Mike E., Helmut, or Andy.

Just sort of "smelled my way around" using what I know about Windows Applications.

To do the sync update:

1.?? Start with the main installed files of LTSPICEXVII....locate the 64 bit .exe and 32 bit .exe versions

2.?? Run the 64 bit first (be sure and close ALL open LTSPICE windows before you do this)..do not reboot.

3.?? Then run the 32 bit version (this is IF there are no "error messages"...if you have several new programs
?????? you have run in 64 bit mode, the procedure in 64 should take longer than the 32..assuming you have done
?????? minimal activities in LTSPICEXVII 32 bit)..again DO NOT reboot...program, unless it has errors it should
? ? ? not tell you to reboot.

4.?? Now do the sync and update for your original install of LTSPICEIV...(you may need to reboot here IF you
?????? are prompted for that)...then definitely do a reboot when finished.

If you get lots of errors in any of these procedures..be sure and check the locations of the files...keep 64bit
files in your 64 bit folders..or sections of Windows 10 or Win7...don't "mix them".? If you installed LTSPICEXVII
your system may take any .asc denoted program into that program....and you may need to do drag and drop to again use LTSPICEIV.? Previous notes on where and how to keep files separate..(in this group) should be
noted and observed.

That would be a good question to ask the LTspice team. ?(That's not us!) ?You know how to reach them.

? ?"Also include a link at the top RHS of the XVII window that jump to this forum."

This forum (the [LTspice] group) is not run by Linear Tech, nor is it an official forum of LTspice.? But it is mentioned in the Help pages.? Personally, I don't see a need to link directly to this group from the program itself.

But again, that would be a suggestion for the LTspice team, not us.

Are you talking about key bindings, Hotkeys?

LTspice has user-programmable Hotkeys.? See Control Panel, Drafting Options tab, Hot Keys.

It's a good point, but 'few' is probably an underestimate, judging by the number of people requiring approval to post who joined the group several years ago. The lurkers might even be a majority; it's possible to trawl the membership list to tell, but I'm not going to do that.

Only thing I want to add is I would think there might be a few people who don't have a general need or haven't needed to post anything that lurk, and learn vicariously through others questions.

So just going by posting might not give the whole size of the community.

Re: LTspice XVII problems...

Does anyone know what may be useful WINE DLL overrides for LTspiceXVII? I found some years ago looking at error messages and by trial and error, but I don't think they apply anymore.

Re: vc pot with internal resistance

Hello Vlad

"Wine displays it as the lower case letter "p", and so does xchm."

Under windows I see the greek symbol pi (not letters p and i).

Request for XVII

Hi

Was is possible for user to choose default file location for library collection elsewhere other than drive C, ie I keep all data in drive D which is sync or shared by external server.?

The XVII can stay in program file ie drive C for example.

Also include a link at the top RHS of the XVII window that jump to this forum. The google search does not provide top level?results?LTSpice from Yahoo.?

Really useful to apply option to enable window control style on schematic, ie CNTR-D duplicate, CNTR-C copy, CNTR-V paste, CNTR-X cut, CNTR-S save, select and delete and so on or have custom key list with user choice (Save/load).?

Thanks

Pure speculation. So you think they have a magic crystal ball that
let them look 6 years into the future and add the routines needed by
XVII? I want one!

I think it is more likely they skipped some that Mike needs for the
new multiple monitor display, or something like that. That's why it
won't load in XP but runs fine in Wine. Also pure speculation.

However, since IV will continue to be supported, it no longer
matters. I can continue to use IV, and keep XVII as a backup for
troubleshooting in case I run into a snag.

I think others can do the same.

Hi John

I fingered it out.

XVII puts em in a different location than IV:

C:\users\username\My Documents\LTspiceXVII\lib\sym\

So, you can put your symbols folder below \sym there.

Its not any where near Program Files any more.

I still havent found where is the .ini file.

I wonder if it depends on your version of Windows or Wine?

If you installed LTspiceXVII already, then it would have created its own LTspiceXVII.ini, somewhere.? If it didn't create it where you looked, then clearly that wasn't the right place.

I found mine in the %APPDATA% folder, right next to my LTspiceIV.ini.? It was one of the first things I looked for, right after I installed the alpha-test LTspiceXVII.

I am using Windows 7.? Not interested in the free downgrade to Win10.

Re: Google groups

Hello,

I have now created a ?group to reserve the name LTspice.?
It could be our backup position if the new owners of Yahoo would stop the Yahoo groups.

Helmut,

There are numerous posts in Tekscopes about groups.io

They started looking at groups.io on April 12. They reserved the name and transferred some files but they never actually moved. They disabled posting to the new group some time ago.

A post on May 22 by Dennis describes the status.

Hi,

The move to groups.io is ready to go but at this point Michael Dunn
and I decided to allow the sale process of Yahoo progress to its
conclusion before deciding when the move to groups.io would take
place.

Dennis Tillman W7PF

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It might be wise to do the same as Tekscopes. Start LTspice on groups.io so you are ready to make the move, but wait until it is clear what Verison intends to do.

Even if it is feasible to stay, it would be a good idea to have a backup.

You never know what is going to happen.

Henry's current transformer problem

Hello Henry,

From looking at the data sheet here are my guess for your CT core's physical parameters:

Ae (core area) = 95mm**2
le (path length) = 66mm

For LTspice the magnetic parameters are:
A = 95u

Lm = 66m

Lg = 5u (just a guess -- could be 1u to 20u -- adjust to match the inductance)

For the magnetic parameters use (steel OR nickel-iron / permalloy):

Bs = 1.8 or 0.8

Br = 0.5 or 0.5 (make this lower if there are convergence problems)

Hc = 40 or 2.4

Re: Ferrite Beads

Hello,

The lib and sym files under "Program" are not used by LTspice.

The real directory used by LTspiceXVII is in the personal folder "Documents".

If a symbol is copied in this path, it's shown in the component selection without setting an extra path.

C:\Users\Helmut\Documents\LTspiceXVII\lib\sym?

C:\Users\Helmut\Documents\LTspiceXVII\lib\sub

Best regards,
Helmut
