Does anyone know of the whereabouts of a .LIB or .SUB file for Avago's HCPL-3323 Optocoupler? There is nothing on their web sits.

The part number is HCLP2232. Dennis

Re: Article on EDN by Mike Robbins
Hello Frank,
Thank you for posting the link to the message Mike posted when the alternate solver was first released. A couple of tidbits in the message were especially interesting. One, "It is the hardest for other programs to duplicate." Two, "Basically two copies of the executable in LTspice"
You must have a super memory to be able to recall a message that old in the LTspice message files.

Hello Mike, When you search in the mentioned "all_files.htm" you will find this place below. Files > Lib > Potentiometer > potentiometer.zip Just unzip it in a folder and run the example schematic(.asc). The zip-file contains the symbol potentiometer.asy and a subcircuit potentiometer.sub. Copy these two files into the folders of your schematics if you need a potentiometer. Best regards, Helmut

I am looking for a potentiometer component but can not see one within the library symbols.
Indeed, there is no potentiometer as a standard schematic symbol, built into LTspice. Does anyone know where I can find one?
Sure. You can find them in the [LTspice] YahooGroup. Oh wait, that's where you are! Many people have created them already. If you really need a pot. symbol on your schematic, search this forum and you will find them. You can search through the message archive, but that would be tedious. I recommend downloading and opening this file: Files > Tables of Contents > all_files.htm and then search for "potentiometer.asy" or just "potentiometer". If you don't actually need the symbol, remember that a pot. is just two resistors in series. You can get by with just a pair of resistors and it will simulate exactly the same. Regards, Andy

Re: Convergence Problems.
This problem is solved now. Thanks for your input. The problem is I was using the old Fairchild KSA and KSC models for the 3503 and the 1381. I replaced these with a different transistor and the sim ran ok. Then I replaced just the one back to the original device, it ran, but it was wrong.
I found some updated models on the web that have solved it.
I also understand that Fairchild have updated these models now, so they should converge.

I will try the cap idea and see how it works out. Be sure to try using the Alternate Solver as Andy suggested. This option must be set manually (cannot be set in the simulation commands on the schematic) and it is easy to overlook it having been set on a prior, unrelated simulation. If it gets inadvertently reset, marginal simulations can "suddenly" cease to run.
Clear- thanks for pointing that out. I'll give it a try.
My problems are still with me.
I have tried the ideas above still no success. I took a circuit that is simulating well and appears to be stable ( ie no convergence problems) that uses the same models as the previous circuit. I modify this circuit so that it is a replica of the first circuit discussed above, and the problems return. I am getting pages of ''Heightened Def Con from xxx to yyy' messages in the error log file which I never had before.

Please try my suggestion with cshunt as I mentioned before.

Hello Jason, I never use higher cshunt values than 1e-15.
You could send me one of your designs if you can't upload it for some reason. I would then try on it.

I would first try uploading the schematic(s) to the group's website. That's what we encourage people to do when they want help. See the instructions on the group's website for what directory to upload them into. (Group's website is: ) If you are unable to upload your files (I don't know why anyone would be unable to), or if for security reasons you don't want them to be visible by all members of this group, then use Helmut's offer to email them to him directly. His email address is at the top of any message he sends to the group. If for some reason you are unable to see that, it is: helmutsennewald (at) yahoo.com . Andy

Why not?
Because LTspice needs to parse (read and decode) the netlist in order to find the .option. By then it is too late to change the parser.
Wouldn't it be better than puting a text on the shematic, saying "attention: switch to alternate solver for this deck".
It might be nice, yes. But as the LTspice developer says, it can't be done.
I suppose you could suggest to Mike that he re-consider ... to make LTspice start over from the beginning if it finds an .option to change the solver.
Regards, Andy
PSpice has not one iota of a problem with that circuit.
Perhaps the problem is the 1N4148 model... was it a full diode model, or the idealism that LTspice uses to speed up switcher simulations?

Hello Jim, The simulation has been done with a full diode model. Best regards, Helmut
