Thank you for posting the link to the message Mike posted when the
alternate solver was first released. A couple of tidbits in the
message were especially interesting. One, "It is the hardest for other
programs to duplicate."
Two, "Basically two copies of the executable in LTspice"
You must have a super memory to be able to recall a message that old in
the LTspice message files.

According to Mike Engelhardt, "it runs at about half the simulation
speed but 1000x more accurately as far as the matrix solution goes",
see (that
message is from June 16, 2003, more than 10 years ago!).
