This problem in the topic is long solved, but . . .

The last windows I ran and maintained was windows 98. If one reinstalled or updated like that, junk seemed to collect, such that such that one smartalec explained windows as "Will Install Needless Data On Whole System."
I parted company with win98 & the BSOD about 2006. But I do believe windows does many things well these days, and one or two much better than linux (Graphics, for instance). I half liked XP and windows 7, but when I was buying laptops, they stuck me with vista and windows 8 :-((. Not much encouragement, I think you'll agree.

It's the sort of thing I wouldn't try, as that was a great way to clog up a registry with junk, and end up with random files on your drive. Windows has got less inefficient, but old habits die hard.
