increased the tolerance values.? But you did that by making the magnitude of their negative exponents smaller, right?? So it's confusing to keep it straight, which way they went.? :-)

Decreasing them would have set their tolerances even tighter, which could be good for ultimate accuracy but bad for avoiding convergence failures.
