That's only because visible light waves don't pass through the box
wall. X-ray vision would reveal the status of the contents.

You can look at it another way. While the box is shut, no-one
can know its status; that information simply isn't available.
To elevate that lack of knowledge to a paradox is over-egging
the pudding indeed.
