Re: SX-71 frequency shift
Thanks for help and suggestions. The 6U8 mixer was microphonic (as is common) and replaced with a 6EA8 equivalent improvement. Nice! Now cleaning rotor bearings in Main Tuning capacitor and hoping it

Re: general question re polarized ac plugs on receivers as shipped originally
In the 1960's, CAP Comms units were issued a large number of PE-75s. They had a Briggs/S engine and would put out 2.5kw 24/7. The manual showed the gen connected to 3 or 4 GI gas cans interconnected
Re: SX-71 frequency shift
The two best candidates are: 1 a microphonic tube, 2 a microphonic I.F. can. It could be as simple as reseating the tubes. Just about every part and solder connection in the radio can become

Re: SX-71 frequency shift
I am not specifically fsmiar with the SX-71 but this seems excessive. Certainly mechanical. Could be the oscillator tube? or more likely something loose.? Check the tuning cap and tube by tapping

SX-71 frequency shift
The SX-71 I am working on is tuned up and operating fine. However, when operating cw, the frequency shifts as much as 400 Hertz if the table is bumped or radio tapped. Even after good warm up and

Re: general question re polarized ac plugs on receivers as shipped originally
Over the years have seen some very creative wiring in houses!! To save wire only run a hot wire to a bathroom for lights then hook to a metal water pipe for a neutral to make it work. Older houses

Re: SX-62 Front Panel Paint
That is right,,, they can match the color not the texture. The "blob" texture of the SR series is a good example and some of the old textured and wrinkle finishes take a little creativity to

Re: SX-62 Front Panel Paint
listening in with interest. Paint stors can match the color, but what about the matt-gloss characteristics and maybe what works on metal... Matching paint always seems tricky. 73? don VA3DRL

Re: SX-62 Front Panel Paint
Chris, If all else fails, try Sherwin-Williams paint stores. Clean your panel with soap and water. Then take to S/W, they can scan several spots on the panel and mix an exact match. Walt Cates, WD0GOF

Re: S-40B - What is the socket on the back for?
I have to look at the schematics but it seems to me the S-40 has an electrodynamic speaker, at least in early versions but the S-40A has a PM speaker with a 1K resistor in place of the field coil. The
