Re: general question re polarized ac plugs on receivers as shipped originally

In the 1960's, CAP Comms units were issued a large number of PE-75s.? They had a Briggs/S engine and would put out 2.5kw 24/7.? The manual showed the gen connected to 3 or 4 GI gas cans interconnected and were used to power a remote radio relay site, it appeared. The PE-75 has a fuel pump. They were a very reliable genset that 4 could carry via a sedan chair arrangement. Nuff said......

The two best candidates are: 1 a microphonic tube, 2 a microphonic I.F. can. It could be as simple as reseating the tubes.? Just about every part and solder connection in the radio can become microphonic. Open it up and tap around with a plastic tuning tool or small wooden dowel.

I am not specifically fsmiar with the SX-71 but this seems excessive. Certainly mechanical. Could be the oscillator tube? or more likely something loose.? Check the tuning cap and tube by tapping around with the eraser end of a pencil.? Can also be a cold solder joint or even an unsoldered joint. Also look for cracked resistors.? Have you already cleaned the band switch and cap wipers???
? ?Is this a new problem?? Does it jump in SSB?? Should be the same in both modes.? It's probably doing it in AM but will be harder to hear.

The SX-71 I am working on is tuned up and operating fine. However, when operating cw, the frequency shifts as much as 400 Hertz if the table is bumped or radio tapped.

Even after good warm up and drift stabilizes, shift is readily induced.

Any suggestions for fix much appreciated.

S-40a speaker

开云体育

The service bulletin fir the S-40a says that a field coil speaker was used in the first 1000 units. A PM speaker was used in subsequent production.? I compared the part number with the S-20R, they are different.? I thought perhaps they were using up surplus stock.

Re: SX-62 Front Panel Paint

That is right,,, they can match the color not the texture.? The "blob" texture of the SR series is a good example and some of the old textured and wrinkle finishes take a little creativity to duplicate.

FORTUNATELY,, the SX-62 front panel does not fall into that category.

listening in with interest. Paint stors can match the color, but what about the matt-gloss characteristics and maybe what works on metal... Matching paint always seems tricky.

Hello.? I'm new here.? I'm rebuilding a first run SX-62 with all the loctal tubes in the IF chain.? Anyway, I am going to repaint and re-letter the face due to it being scratched up.? Can anyone give me an idea what color gray the face is?? It looks to me to be like Navy haze gray or some variation of it.? If anyone can point me to something that is close in a spray can, I'd appreciate it.? I don't have anywhere around that can color match without having to drive 3+ hours so something from the local Ace or Lowes will have to do.

Thanks

Re: S-40B - What is the socket on the back for?

I have to look at the schematics but it seems to me the S-40 has an electrodynamic speaker, at least in early versions but the S-40A has a PM speaker with a 1K resistor in place of the field coil. The S-20R has a field coil speaker. Field coil speakers? were very common until after WW-2.? Good magnets were expensive plus the field coil served as a filter choke.

Hello Craig and group

While scouring the www for info I ran across this link re the ?S-40A and B

It seems that much of it is from Riders.

who knows what run[s] it represents.

Again I don’t know what to believe … for the 40B,? the writing says it has PM speaker, but the schematic shows an electro-dynamic? .. did it maybe change in mid-run?

?

Plug for S-meter ?and DC power is shown in the S-40A , but not the B , as most people believe to be true.

The last page partly applies to the Halli S-40's … if you are working on one, you may want to read it.?

?? The only thing remaining on the grid side of V2B that has not been replaced or checked is the anti-trip circuit.?? I will be looking here next, I guess.?? Any other suggestions welcome.
