Re: SX-28 Info

Hi Steve. Here are pics of my sx28a. No inside bottom cover, nor do I see any provision for it.?

Re: SX-62 FM respons

Hi,
On my SX-62, which I use maybe 2 or 3 hours a day on classical music, I find two audio peaks on 88.7 MHz when I tune. I generally tune to the upper peak. I suspect the two peaks are because when I aligned the IF they are not exactly tuned identically to the same center frequency. I also find “twin” peaks on higher frequencies but less pronounced.

Randy,

? ? I'd be interested in the RF section.? I need the band switch assembly, but I expect the whole section would be easier to remove.? Just let us know what your final decison is about the future of the radio.

What are you asking for it before parting it out??

Hi again Scott, and Waldo/Skip wherever you are

I have been curious about the sx-62’s and also the 42’s and have more thoughts and questions re Scott’s situation, but I just ran into this:

“Both use the same limiter/discriminator FM detection system which works very well but can be confusing to new users since it will detect each FM station at 3 closely spaced points on the dial. The center spot is the correct location where it is operating as a true discriminator but it will also "slope" detect FM when slightly offset to either side of center. Until you get used to tuning FM with this type of detector, especially for the SX-62 which doesn't have a tuning meter, you should tune in AM mode for MAXIMUM distortion and then switch to FM. Tuning in AM mode for max distortion centers the signal within the IF where you want it and then switching to FM results in minimum distortion.

SX-28 Info

Hi all, well, 1st time for everything.?
4 years ago, my SX28 smoked the AF output transformer.?
After 4 years, thanks to retirement,? I had time to put a new transformer in it, but now am missing 2 things:
The receiver bottom cover AND the bottom cover of the cabinet!
I just need photos, if you have a couple of good pix of the parts, please share....
I know they are here somewhere!?

Re: SX-25

If nobody buys your radio, and you end up parting it out, i would be interested in the audio transformer and band spread dial.

Hi ya Walt

Electronic Surplus is the one site that I hace found that has them or so they say.

I had a look but the Tek site no longer has them as far as I can see.

I have last worked on it over a year ago, but if I remember correctly the AM setting on the FM band sounded better.
I will likely put it back on the bench later this year, as most of my retirement? things will be out of the way.

If I understand it correctly, the 62 uses only the 10.7 IF’s for the high 2 bands, but it can do AM as well as FM on those bands. Maybe it is possible that it is processing the FM as AM using slope detection, perhaps due to a dirty contact on the selectivity switch.

As a comparison, with a FM station tuned in using FM, what difference do you get if you then select AM ?

Agree on the R-42 Reproducer. First I ever heard was in the shop of W3HM, Howard Mills, a couple of years ago. Wonderful. It was hooked to my 51J4 at the time - not famous for "hifi audio" - but it sounded great!

What Hallicrafters radio was the R-42 originally introduced for? I have no idea. The SX-62?
