Re: SX-62 FM respons

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have replaced them in 1 of the 2 62's. I First bought a SX-62(kind of a wreck), recapped it, and it performed well except for FM audio, I then recapped the discriminator , and re adjusted it per the alignment instructions, but it didn't really help, so I found a 62A and it performed pretty much the same way, after recapping except for the discriminator, which I didn't do yet (because on the last one it didn't help) at that point I became annoyed with it, and shelved it for another day. I would really like to know if someone has listened to one working correctly, and their opinion of the sound.
I will be retiring this year, then it will be back on the bench.

Well ¨C some other things to try first, then.? The SX-62 is notorious for bad micas, and if not done yet you should replace every mica in the FM discriminator transformer.? FM performance will be impacted by even the smallest of leaks in those caps.? Were those replaced already?

I don't have a sweep generator, or spectrum analyzer I have an oscilloscope, standard rf signal generator, many different volt meters.

Do you have the gear to do a sweep alignment?? Ideally and if available, use a spectrum analyzer with a tracking generator so you can visualize the FM IF and have a better idea of what¡¯s going on.? The SX-62 was designed for superb audio fidelity ¨C in fact it has 6V6 push-pull audio and a R-42 bass-reflex speaker came with this model.? A recap, which you have done, will almost certainly bring on the need for a thorough re-alignment.

It has been recapped, and seems to receive well on both AM and FM, but audio quality is poor on FM broadcast on all stations.

Have tried to improve the FM alignment, and have not had any improvement. All tubes have been checked good, and swapped between both radios 62 ans 62A? Audio on AM seems fine

Scott: your 62 could need alignment as Steve said, or maybe some tubes, caps etc are tired? you didn't say what state it is in.
But i forgot one thing before ..i belong to the Fmtuners group .. and they say some stations with "Digital" reek havoc on many older FM tuners.... so is the problem on most stations?
hope you can get the 62 purring like Steve's
