You make a good point.? And the truth is that I have both a NanoVNA and a TinySA.? Haven¡¯t done much with the NanoVNA yet ¨C it might be time to learn something new.

I think they are just saying to rock it back and forth in freq to make sure it's peaked.? A generator of that time period was not dead stable and they had no digital read out of xtal freq. If you are monitoring the freq on a more modern gen or counter, you can just leave it be.?

?

The real question is?

, why not use a 55 dollar nanovna to adjust these cans?? It's far superior and provides a picture of the band pass so you can adjust them perfectly.? ?

?

There are tons of videos on how Including Carlson's lab on YouTube.

The IF alignment procedure as spelled out in the SX-110¡¯s Operating and Service Manual is a little confusing in one spot (see attached). In step 2 you adjust the top slug of the first IF transformer (alignment point "A") for a dip on your output meter (a VTVM, usually) (while varying the generator frequency some) ¨C and the factory note says indicates that this alignment is to the frequency of the crystal. Fine -- I've found that null and know the frequency of that exact point. In the next step, however, you are asked to switch to sharp and ¡°adjust the generator frequency for maximum output¡± and that this is the ¡°exact frequency of the crystal¡±. So, which is it? I thought the frequency of the crystal was determined in step 2?? See the language in the factory note below step 2.? Thoughts?
