Something to watch out for although I don't think they are particularly common in Hallicrafters geR Re flat molded paper caps.? These were used in place of mica caps especially in some ww-2 equipment.? Most seem to have been made by Micamold and SolR, both of whom also made regular mica caps.? ?These flat caps look a lot like micas.? Whatever their virtues, if any, when new,? they should be replaced on sight now preferably with modern mica or plastic film caps.? They were used when mica was in short supply and were evidently acceptable for some applications like RF bypassing.

Subject: [HallicraftersRadios] S-40 Drifted Micas
Seeing something in the restoring of the S-40 here that I don¡¯t see very often ¨C some VERY significantly drifted micas.? Found a few that were crazy out of spec.? I¡¯m replacing them with modern silver micas where needed, but I¡¯m curious if Hallicrafters is known for some wacky micas.?
