Re: Border Closure Extension

Hi Peter,

Glad that you are doing well. That's the important thing.?

The COVID 19 problem continues to cause havoc with travel, restrictions, food supply, etc. Every sports car, ham radio, and proposed travel that I've had on my calendar since February has been canceled. Some have been rescheduled for 2021 but most have been deleted. I certainly understand why the events are gone, and I respect the decision, but it still saddens me. The only thing left on my calendar is the PEI trip and I feel it will fall victim of common sense, and the lack of a vaccine. All 4 of the PEI operators are 70+. I'm 76 and Ev is two years older. And that puts us into the very high risk category. By the end of the month we should discuss our options and decide if we should push on, or postpone the trip to 2021.

We are getting some rain that you could probably use. Nancy and I took the dogs to the river today for a nice swim and ball retriever excercises. Both Kenai and MacKenzie love it. Their antics make us both laugh. A robin has an active nest in the tree by the deck.

More soon......Joe?

Hi to you all,

NZ is now at Level 2 which allows us to travel about the country again, limited social get togethers, but no mention? of international travel yet. The first signs of allowing travel to and from Australia and some of the Pacific Islands are there, but no timetable. My guess is this may happen within two months but that is my guess only. At this time I have flagged any hope of getting to US or Canada this year, sadly as I was looking forward to meet you all again and have an adventure.

Otherwise I am well and keeping reasonably busy.

That agreement?was extended in April by 30 days and it was set to expire on May 21.

Peter

Sorry you won't be with us this year.? I'm unsure at this point if Barbara and?I will be able to do the Portland to Boston flight on September 2.? I expect the US/New Brunswick border entry to be open by then, but the cross-country air is more dependent on how the virus declines.

I'm reading the news from NB and PEI. They are handling the coronavirus in a reasonable manner, IMHO. They are re-opening some business now. Most festivals have been canceled. Massachusetts is still?increasing...Maine is not deeply affected an what they have is declining.

Maybe we need to do a ZOOM meeting on or after June 1 to discuss what we each think we should do.? What does everyone think?

Day 41 of our lockdown. This week some retailers are open with limited access and keeping our distances. Have been on the golf course playing and doing some maintenance. There is discussion going on today wrt allowing travel between NZ and Australia. I guess we will hear the outcome in due course..

Hope you are all keeping well and not too much cabin fever.

Good to hear, Peter. NZ seems to have done a good job in protecting people. Hopefully by mid-June we should be well over the hump. We are all a bit nuts because of the lockdown, but very pleased that we are all alive and well. The pollen in the air around our place is bothering me, but not badly.

I just took young MacKenzie for a nice walk. The dogs are also tired of being under "house arrest", but a good walk helps them. Tomorrow the weather forecast is for rain.?

I had a nice chat with Mac today. He and Lynne were tested and the report came back as negative. They were in the drive through testing line for 4 or 5 hours!

Stay healthy and enjoy some golfing.

Cheers, Joe?

NZ will come down one level next week. Still very little getting together but some businesses will be able to get going again. No retail shops, only on line shopping (except supermarkets that will continue with restricted service). May be able to play golf still keeping 2 metre distance from the others, no bar afterwards either. Then another review in early May to see how we are doing. We are lucky to be quite isolated in the world. Keep well you guys

Smart call by Canada.

?

We still see about 75% of people who are out-and-about locally NOT wearing masks of any kind. That said, the incidence of the virus in our neck of the woods is low, though not a lot of reportage.

Just looked at the "US Health Weather Map” at:?

to get an idea. Not definitive, but interesting.

?

We, Lynn and I, went and got our eyeballs wiped (that’s how far up the nostrils the swab went it seemed) on Saturday. Should get results in 72 hours, though the drive-through got more takers than they had planned I think.

?

Our Governor Lee decided to push for “testing for all” with a task force of Health, TN Nat. Guard, TEMA, and some other entities overseeing it all. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

?

Latest prognosis from the task force and Vanderbilt Hospital is for the peak in Tennessee to occur in early/mid June. I wonder if we will remain under the stay-at-home orers until then? Groan.

?

I do not want to sound pessimistic but, since there will not be a “cure”, nor maybe even a vaccine, by fall in time for round 2 (will there be a round 2?), Canada may be out of the realm of possible. Especially if we’d have to undergo a 14-day quarantine on entrance. OK, we could all shelter at DX Lodge, but that might be too close-quarters for effectiveness.

?

OK, time to re-pot a plant or two and hang some rafters in the shed for the ceiling in the new shack. Maybe I’ll have it finished by the time this is all over. Probably about the time the K4 arrives ;~).

Starting Monday at noon Eastern?.

  • Possession of a mask will have to be demonstrated during the check-in process for all international flights departing Canada or flying to Canada. (That will require physical check-in).

  • Masks must be worn going through Canadian security checkpoints (to protect security screeners)

  • And worn whenever a passenger can’t be physically distanced from others

Passengers are expected to provide their own non-medical masks, and?encouraged?but not required to wear masks when using other forms of transportation.

Sorry to miss the show. I was deep into the kitchen cabinet install and could not break away.

If another one is scheduled I ’should’ be able to “attend”. If you can ding me with a text when starting up I’ll crawl into the shack and turn on the laptop. No camera on the ‘big’ computer ;>)
