Re: Delete group email

Merle -- Our parent organization accepts dues payment and collects membership information via . New members are subsequently Direct Added to the associated GIO group. In that context I agree it would be nice to be able to remove the join link and disable the +subscribe email function. Unfortunately, you have to pay dearly for that (Enterprise fees).
?
If you make your group Restricted, at least that will keep people from joining all willy-nilly. At that point you can create a Member Notice to automatically redirect them to the actual signup location. This can be either a Pending Subscription notice or a Rejection notice. We use Rejection, but one works about as well as the other.
?
In either case, a group admin has to periodically log onto groups.io and process the Pending applications.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

?
Understood!
?
So how does one apply - just briefly— ?if they don't apply for membership?
?
Could a “Pending Membership” auto notice somehow lessen the pain/wasted time? ?The auto notice (with no action on your part) could explain about the dues. ?
?
I don't use that auto-notice but perhaps others on here do and use it for that purpose and could assist you.?

We want to send them an invitation to join. No one reads there are dues to be paid, for example, they just hit subscribe, we get the alert and then I send the invitation with the information and they just don’t reply. Lots of extra work on our end.?

Sure, just send a blank email to [email protected] and the mods will take care of the rest.

Well, that explains why I couldn’t find directions. Very annoying. Just another reason we need to find another host. Many thanks for solving the issue, Christos!?

If you're referring to the address shown under "Group Email Addresses", it cannot be deleted/hidden, at least in free & premium groups, the Enterprise groups can customize their home page but I have no clue as to what extent.

And even if it wasn't shown, people could still use that yourgroupname+subscribe@gio address to try to subscribe to your group as that the standard subscribe (by email) format for any group.

Pretty sure that’s a simple change in the “Display Name” field under your membership listing:

Delete group email

Merle Slyhoff

Hi. Hoping someone here can help.
?
i need to delete the subscribe groups email link from our main page. We don’t want people to use the groups email to ask to join. In the text section on that page we have instructions to request membership and it doesn’t use a groups email alias.I’ve read the manual about 6 times and can’t find how to do that.
?
Help! And many thanks!

Re: Invitations to join not being received

Problem solved. As suspected, the invitation was in their spam/junk folder.
What we didn’t realize is that the invitation is titled “Group Notification”.
Thanks for all your help!

?It's no coincidence those two particular domains addresses are having problems, Hotmail & msn are both owned by the same company (Microsoft) and use the same servers, rules and whatnot, and also both have been known to be problematic sometimes, just like Yahoo, AOL, etc.

Since both addresses already have groups.io accounts, one way you can "fix" this problem is to send those two a personal email with a link to the group's home page address, and tell them to click the "Join this group" button. Alternatively they can send themselves a blank email to your group's +subscribe address.

At least this way they can be added to the group so you can then do further testing by sending them a couple of group comms and looking at their email delivery history for possible clues, so when the time comes for the actual invites you'd at least know how to handle msn & hotmail addresses.

Christos

And it will, as Patrick noted the address of the email determines where it goes.? If they were in the main group and sent a message it would only post to the main group, if they were in sugroupXYZ and sent a message it would only post to?sugroupXYZ.

Of course that only works if one is using the website, if one is sending email there's nothing stopping them from "cross-posting", i.e. including both sugroupXYZ and the main group in the TO: field.?

That's how it works anyway. Just post your message to the subgroup and only subgroup members will receive it (based upon their subscription settings).

Thank you, what I was hoping was that if they were in the sub group when they sent the message, it would only go to the sub group. ?I can try sending a message from the sub group and see where it goes, but since I’m a member of the sub group, I will of course get the message. I don’t have any way to test this.
