It appears that files and photos and such are now gone from Yahoo Groups.

The Chrome browser apps no longer seem to work. They run, but don't download anything. Not sure where this leaves PGO...but I suspect we're now at the mercy of the Privacy Dashboard exports.

Hi Bruce,
?
We moderate all of our messages from our members.? Approving them the past couple of days has been a nightmare. I would have problems getting to the approvals for messages. Sometimes taking me up to six different tries over an hour time frame to get to the approvals. And then I would approved them they would disappear from the queue as if they were approved and maybe half an hour later they would pop up back in the queue to be approved again. And so it would be hit-or-miss as to whether they were actually approved. Most of times taking four or five tries at going through this process before they actually got approved and went through. And of course they had already stopped showing up under conversations. So during this process of waiting whether or not they were really approved I couldn't tell until they just stopped coming up into the queue again.
?
Now when I go look into the approval queue to see if there is anything in there I get a message that says
?
"The item you are looking for is not available".
?
Does that mean that we can no longer have messages that we approve? that they all have to automatically go through? Before I think it used to just say there was nothing to be approved.
?
I checked our moderation settings and it still says under messages that they are moderated. But it also says photos are unmoderated and photos don't exist anymore.
?
So what should be happening with our messages when we want them to be moderated?
?
Interesting our group homepage picture changed too.

Cindy -- This problem has been reported in the Yahoo version of GMF, too.

I suspect that going forward, you will have to moderate all posts by email...there is no such web function in Y!G anymore.

It looks like all the Home Page pictures have disappeared also, to be replaced by a vapid Yahoo generic picture or nothing.

Bruce,

So I was right on my hunch.? That the change over was today rather than the weekend as most businesses run M-F 9-5.

When our members break our rules with their postings and it's a something that I can't fix without rejecting it with reply and telling them to fix it I just go ahead and do that because it easiest that way. But if I have to do it via email, I don't see a way to edit their posting and then approve it. At least for the last email that I received it just looks like I can approve it or reject it. Is that true I no longer can edit it and I can no longer reject with reply telling them what's wrong? or does that reject option in the email give me a choice to just reject or reject and reply once I try it?
?
I'm beginning to not just dislike but to detest YG......

Owners were warned. But I do know some owners just never alerted their group. I think all owners should have stayed on top of it reporting it to their groups . I know of one that she didn't alert anything about it?

Some quiet group owners may not have known. And in many groups, a lot of people are no mail or digest; if they haven't checked the site recently, the owner had no way of letting them know.

No one can expect an owner, who after all is unpaid, to send out 1,000 emails just in case someone didn't know Yahoo was bailing.

Owners coud send out "Special Notices" which often overrode "No Email" but not all Owners got the Yahoo notice. I didn't.
Also, members didn't have a real 'need to know' much in advance.

I'd say that's unlikely.? I haven't had an account on Yahoo for 6 years and I got the email notifications they sent out to group owners, so anyone that's still an owner would have gotten them.? I think they sent them to anyone that had ever owned a group.

There may even have been groups where the owners decided that they simply didn't want to invest the time and effort required to move a group or restart it elsewhere.

I can't say how grateful I am for the people here who generously donate their time and expertise to help others, but some simply don't have the time or expertise to deal with these things.

Only group owners and moderators can decide how much time and effort they ar willing to expend on a group. IMHO, we should appreciate what they have done, and not complain about jobs they chose not to take on.

Sandy (not an owner, just a moderator)

Yes Yahoo Groups is dead. I get nothing now.
?
"Yahoo servers appear to be offline or your IP has been temporarily locked out."?
?
And the pages I did have up, I click on the links, get redirects to the groups ABOUT page only. Nothing else exists there.? Even the group's min page graphic is gone.? bummer.? I liked that.? YG looks cold and gray now.
?
Looks like I have more work to do getting the data saved from there posted once again here on GIO.

I know but it is we owners that get yelled at . This is true many are on no mail and unless you email each one. or set those to individual email they may never know?

That's why I am glad that there is the ability to disallow "no mail". And I am careful not to abuse my power to send special notices which many choose in lieu of "no mail".

Like so many people, I created an email address on Yahoo, which was required when Yahoo took over groups. I never really used that address and had little reason to check it unless word got out that Yahoo was purging inactive accounts. Owner or moderator messages went to my primary email account through my independent ISP.

When word of the impending closure appeared on here, I went and checked my groups and found the notice on the group pages there. I never received messages to my primary email address. I even requested a backup from the dashboard and logged in to Yahoo to get that. But it wasn't until I started looking for the response that said my transfer was ready that I had occasion to look at my Yahoo mail. And finally, at that time, I found the messages to owners and moderators. So it is possible that some owners and moderators who operated almost entirely by email may have missed them, or found them too late.

This is just my experience.

I'm in hell with YG because I still want to send out info to my unauthorised "no mail" members and those we lost ability to send messages to set to "special notices"

But YG is not dead....??

I'm in and changing those members membership types (changes are saving) and then going to send out another "email to all"? but I have 9,000 members to check their membership status and when I change one it takes me back to the beginning to then page through to look for the next.? Slow.......? but dont know what else to do to get info out to 9,000 members.? I dont know how many of them got my 1st message that did go to digests and individual.? 2nd message went to individual.? But I want everyone I can possibly notify that we have moved and how to get to us.? I also changed our homepage to say the same thing before I thought that ability possibly could go away too.? I dont think they have been consistent, YG, with telling us everything that was going away.? And took away some stuff before saying so...

(My rant, sorry.....? but I can still get in and do stuff, it's not dead, as you say, servers are working.? but when I finish what I want, if I can, it will become dead to me....)?

Send an email to the groups email address, i.e. GroupManagersForum@...

Speaking of which. Is it possible to keep the conversations about Yahoo groups in the Yahoo group managers' list? That would seem to be the more appropriate place to ask about how to send an email to all the members in a Yahoo group.

In our YG group, I'm going in the "manage members" area and making sure everyone is set to individual emails and then I'll send an email and everyone will get it.

What I sent so far did not go to those who were set no no email which we technically dont allow but do have ? # members set that way

And it did not go out to those set to special notices because that feature was disabled by YG before I was aware of that so I missed out on notifying those members of our change.

I was able to send 1 notice before they turned off? daily digest.? But anything sent from now on will not go out to them either.? (Tried and verified)

So the only way to go to anyone now is to make sure they are set to individual emails and then send out my notice.? So I'm going through and changing anyone who is not set to individual emails and changing them that way.? Slowly with 9,000 members to crawl through and check and change where necessary.

Then 1 email will go to everyone.? And repeated a couple of times over a given period of time as a reminder, members might not care as much about all of this around the holidays as much as we are in setting it up properly.? And working so frantically for the past couple of days.? They will get a couple of reminders and then I'm done with YG!!!

Our group is moderated so I'm not going to let anyone post on YG anymore.? Those who try to post will get an individual email reply telling them to join our group on groups.io, if not already, and post there.? It will basically say what I've already sent out? to the YG but it will be a response to their specific post.? We've had 61 new members sign up in our groups.io since our message went out a couple of days ago.

That way those members I've changed from special notices and no email wont get anything from anyone else and get mad.? Then when I'm done my changes, they will only get the message from the mod/owner discussing the move and how to sign up.? But it will go out to not just them but to all in our YG via email, everyone will be set to individual emails.

(Sorry, again a YG aggravated rant....? but wanted to give detail if anyone cared to know.? I have all my ranting out now I think, ha ha.? Unless they just do shut down.? Then I'll just be mad and have nothing else to say....)
