Two Levels of moderation
In the main group one can set it up so that a new member is moderated for x number of messages. In my situation I chose the 2 message option. For a subgroup, the Settings also have an option for moderating new members. I again chose 2 messages. My question is this:
If I have it set up so that a new member has to be moderated for the first two messages in the main group, and the same for a subgroup, 1) does a member have to pass the subgroup new member criteria even though the member passed the main group criteria, 2) or is it the case that a member has to pass the subgroup criteria only if the member never submitted two messages to the main group to pass the main group criteria? They're independent.? They could meet either criteria for that group or subgroup without meeting both.? As you have it set, they'd need 2 approved posts in each group.? Note that you don't have to choose a Spam Control on a subgroup only the main group.

I created a group with four subgroups. I went back in and removed the spam control setting for one of the groups as you suggested/implied. However, at the home page for the subgroup it still gives an email address to subscribe to the subgroup. What is happening here? If someone sees this subgroup on the internet and subscribes to it, since the spam is removed for this subgroup will they have to pass the moderation criteria of the main group, or will they be permitted to join the subgroup and submit messages without any moderation? Also, one of the four subgroups is tailored just for the main group. It would make no sense to give someone the capability to subscribe to the subgroup, but yet an email address is provided to do just that. Is there a way to eliminate all the subscription and unsubscription email addresses in the home page of a subgroup? Stan On 2/15/2018 10:31 PM, Duane wrote:

A person can't join a subgroup unless they're a member of the main group.? Once they're in the main group, they could join the subgroup and post immediately without the spam control, but would need to post twice on the main group (based on your previous comment.)
You can change the Privacy > Visibility setting for the subgroup so that it's not listed on the main group Home page.? I don't think non-members of the main group see it though. Duane -- Help: /static/help GMF's Wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Search button at the top of Messages list |
Follow up:? If someone that's not a member of the main group finds the subgroup and clicks on the Join button, they'll see the message, "You cannot subscribe to this subgroup until your subscription to the parent group is approved."? This is a bit misleading because it doesn't generate a pending subscription in the main group.? (I'll report this to support.)

Duane,
This is a bit misleading because it doesn't generate a pendingBut it does generate "Subscription Approval Needed" notices to the moderators of the primary group. I received no notifications relating to the subgroup. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
