two different email addresses link to one account

Is there a way to have two different email addresses link to one account?
so I can get it on my cell phone and my home email account?
I was hoping that I could get an email from a group to both accounts.

Thanks
Ron

Ron,

You could just sign up "twice" with the different addresses.

However, you could just use one email address and access it from different devices. For example, I access my Gmail account on my PC, cellphone and a tablet.

You could make an alias.?
You can also create two accounts. Your email address is an account.

See for details.

If all else fails, you can set up a home computer with the software Thunderbird, and program it to forward messages from the group to your phone.

It can be done, I have done it, it works.

I have Mediacom for an internet service provider.

I have Thunderbird programmed to go to Mediacom every 60 seconds to check for incoming email.

It downloads the email messages to my computer.

I have filters on my incoming email that sorts it and puts it into whichever folder is appropriate.

I also have a filter that says, that if a message comes from one certain address, (the address of a group) to forward it to another address, which is the email address of my phone.

Notice I said? "email address of my phone" not to my phone number like a text message.

Every phone has an email address, you might have to contact your phone carrier to get it, but your phone has one.

Works slick as can be.

Only disadvantage for me is having to leave a computer on at home all the time.

Small price to pay.

Gerald, Frances and Marlin47

Thank you for responds.

?It sounds like I have two options, one create a second account, and the other is to try to do mail forwarding.? I think I’m going to try Marlin47 way first, and try to forward the groups email.? Since I use Gmail, Maybe Gmail has a forwarding option like Marlin47 described, so I don’t need to leave my home PC on. But I do use Thunderbird email at home too. Then I can add an alias email to my account so I can send email from my home PC.

Thanks again for your responds,

Ron

Based on the question you initially asked, this will work. Just understand that the email address you are forwarding to will be "receive only;" you will not be able to post messages to the group from there. Similarly, if you create an email alias, you will be able to post from either address but will not receive group emails at the alias.

The only way you can both post and receive group emails from two different email addresses is by setting up two accounts and subscribing them both to the group.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Ron, as stated by Gerald, the easiest solution with a Gmail account is the ability to access your Gmail from any device anytime. You do not need to leave a computer on anywhere and you do not need to worry about forwarding.

Just a tip - if you do create two accounts, you can have different subscriptions for them. Perhaps, one every email, one a daily digest. Otherwise you may be inundated with email! The good news is that you can amalgamate the two accounts if you decide it isn't necessary any more.

Why bother with forwarding?? It's easy to configure your mail clients to retrieve email from multiple addresses/services.?

In Gmail, Settings -> Accounts and Import -> Import Mail and Contacts (Import from Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, or other webmail or POP3 accounts.)
All your email in one place and choose which account to use when sending.

Better yet, just use one email address and have your cell phone and your PC mail clients both connect to the one address.

Why do you have different accounts on your computer and phone?

Martin,

My home computer account I had for years, I’ve only started using a phone email account for a year or so.? I thought I had to use a web browser to use Gmail on my home pc.? After reading up on marlin47 suggestion, to use Thunderbird, I found out I can use Gmail on my phone and my computer using Thunderbird.? What I didn’t understand was I have to set Thunderbird to leave the email on the mail server to see it on my phone too.? It is my mistake, ?I’m not too phone email savvy.

I’m good now thanks,

Ron

You'll be happier (in the long run) if you set up Thunderbird to use the IMAP protocol to fetch from Gmail rather than POP. Your phone uses IMAP protocol and the two will work together better using the same protocol.

As you've seen, the default behavior of POP is to download the message and delete it from the server - meaning that the message is no longer available to your phone. With IMAP both your phone and Thunderbird are looking at the messages as stored on Gmail's server. Changes made by one device are seen by the other.

In Thunderbird, but probably not your phone, you also have "Local Folders" - these are folders of messages stored in your computer, similar to POP folders. You can move or copy messages between server folders and local folders to organize things any way you like (but only folders on Gmail's server will be visible to your phone).

Hope this helps.
