Please share your database use-cases #database

Hi all, could you share examples of the ways you are using the database feature?

?I haven't quite figured out its usefulness, so I'd like to hear some of your real life examples.

Thanks?

Our group consist of individuals at different organizations who share a common interest. So the database lists their name, title, organization, and answers to a few questions we asked when they joined the group; reason for joining and details about specific related projects they are working on.

Ways I have used a database. My group is a graphics sharing type group.
Here are some of the examples I have used a database for.
?
1) To ask?my members what they would like to have shared in the group as far as theme shares go.?
?
2) Extras they would like to have shared or made
?
3) To fill out as to why they are going on Special Notice and expected return so their settings aren't changed to individual mail
?
4) Names they want me to look for to send them Snagged Personalized Tags
?
5) to list artists that have given my group permission to use their work along with the copyright information that is needed.
?
6) List of General Permission artists who allow all to use their work along with their copyright information that is needed
?
7) My Ads letter group I use Databases for
7a New Ads to be added to the letter
7b Changes made to ads
7c Groups to be removed
7d A list of all groups and whether they sent out the ads letter to their group
7e Waiting List of groups
7f Spotlighted groups - so everyone gets a chance
?
And the list could go on......................
?

We are an animal health group and use databases, for example to collect veterinarian addresses recommended by our members. Also we collect addresses of various specialists and clinics.
We also use databases as a link collection concerning animal health issues.

We use the database for people's likes and dislikes when it comes to tags.? It's very needed

We use Databases for listing a specific sub specialty listing of ophthalmologists.
We use it in our premium group to provide a visual mapping worldwide which also allows patient members to elicit Google directions.
We use it in our Management group w/out the map for referrals when needed.

We are a charity knitting/crochet/sew group and databases are the most important part of our group. ?Each month we support different charities. ?I set up a database for each on so members can add their details if they will be supporting that charity. ?At the end of the month donations have to be posted so as each member sends off their contribution they record the date and tracking number and when it reaches the group member who is collecting parcels she marks them off as received. ?Without databases we would be lost!!

I run two craft exchanging groups for ATCs and Cards – the swap lists for sign ups and partners are listed in the Database – I would be lost without the Database!!!

Lloyd Lehrer,

can you tie the Database roster of members to the groups.io list of members to ensure everyone is in the database, and that there are no non-members in the database?

Charlie

Hi Lloyd, thanks for asking, that's been one of my hurdles in making this tool useful. ?

Hi Marie, can you explain more? Do users add tags to the ?Db of things they like/dislike in a way you ban report on it? Or send emails that are appropriate to those tags?

Hi Lloyd, is your group large? How do you keep that list up to date as members join/leave?

Thanks

Jenny, it was Charlie that was asking about the tie up. I did not try to link the member list with the database. I presumed there might be coding that could be done, but I am too ignorant of the language used by to know. Also dont know why fields cant be added to the members list so we dont have to duplicate it or if someone? has asked for that of the development?team.

Hi Jenny,

All members can access the database page and all members can add and edit rows.

Provided that the settings allow it.? See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Databases for details about the database settings.? There are also settings in the group Settings page that apply to databases.

Yes adding fields to the member list would be awesome, even having some fixed contact fields would make a huge difference; address/primary phone
