Pending member automatically rejected after 14 days
Jan Smith
I send Pending Member notices to my pending members, frequently, some answer back, some don'te.? Some never answer back and now, for the first time 3 of pending members have automatically been rejected.?
I received an email this morning from one of those members, replying to the latest Pending member email I sent.? This member says she has replied to at least of my previous emails, but I never go them.? Now, that she is responding, I can I get her back? Can she just reply, and if so, is there a time limit? Thanks, again. Jan Smith? |
Well, the easy way now, I think, is to send the potential member an invitation, if you are satisfied with them as members. Or Direct Add if you are premium. (Invited people don't get a pending subscription notice.)
However there are some strategies for the future in the wiki. If they don't reply: you can resend if they don't reply within a reasonable time. To resend the "Pending Subscription Message" (if you get no response):
Check the box at the left end of that Pending Member's row
Select "Resend Pending Membership Notice" in the drop-down "Actions" menu
Click "Yes" in the "Verify Action" dialog window.
If they don't reply to the second probe either or don't meet your criteria, reject their request.

Go to Admin>Members, click open her member record (anywhere on that row), then click the "+owner Message" button at the top. Now, that she is responding, I can I get her back?Send her an invitation (Admin>Invite) and have her click on the link in that invitation. New subscribers who accept invitations do not go into Pending status. Bruce |

The "Pending Subscription Message" will not delay the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice, however an Owner/Moderator can put the 14 day clock on hold by 'Claiming' the application. Click on "View Pending Member" in the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice email, or go to the group's website Admin > Members Select "Pending Members" (in the drop-down Members menu) if not already shown Click on the row (not the check box) of the Pending Member Click on "Claim Sub" at bottom of the page The words "Claimed by <your name>" will appear in a blue box to the right of the applicant's email address Now the 14 day clock has been stopped and only you can approve this Subscription by email. NOTE: All Owners and any Moderator (with appropriate privileges) can still approve this Subscription at anytime at the website. This allows you to wait until you get a reply to the "Pending Subscription Message". To resend the "Pending Subscription Message" (if you get no response): Check the box at the left end of that Pending Member's row Select "Resend Pending Membership Notice" in the drop-down "Actions" menu Click "Yes" in the "Verify Action" dialog window. |

Now, that she is responding, I can I get her back?Only if she reapplies to join or you send her an invitation; the deletion of an application either deliberately or because it time - expires cannot be reversed. FWIW in my experience it is not unusual for applicants to fail to respond to both the "confirmation request" sent by Groups.io and / or the Pending Subsciption message set up by a moderator. Do you moderate by email or using the web UI? I suspect the former. I suggest that you check your spam box to see if anything relevant got stuck there, and also check your Activity Log for Message to +owner which might tell you if she sent a message or not. I say "might" because it is possible that such activities are not retained if the application times out; it's something that I have never had to check. It might be that she is "being economical with the truth". :) BTW it is just possible that there is another explanation entirely, but it could only apply if she is in the UK. Chris |

MIchael, you are so smart, but you are way above my understanding.? I am doing good to learn what I've learned so far and trying to give my members the information they need to learn how to move around in the group.
I will printed out what you are saying, and then I can check it out, later. Thanks. Jan Smith |
If you have a basic (free) group, see these instructions in the wiki:

Well, when I get a notification to approve a subscription, I click on the link to view the member and that takes me in here on the web.? Easier for me to check out activity, etc.? ?I approve messages that way, or on my cell phone.?
Check Spam by email provider, daily.? Used to get some since using AOL, but it seems to be better now.? When I click on Activity, I do not see "Message to +owner" in the list of activities to check out.? I did send her an email telling her that I was checking out options, but haven't heard back.? ?I keep saying 14 days, but the info I have is that in 7 days they can reapply.? I told her this in the last email.? ?Again, I will check on the invite. Thanks. Jan Smith ?Everyone replying to my original post is talking about sending an invite.? All the members on my group were sent a LINK to join the group, no invites.? Sending the link to join has worked great.? ? |

So if you invited them to join (albeit through a link in YahooGroups or email or elsewhere) you didn't need (or perhaps even use) the Pending Subscription notice. Sorry if I confused you! she was a pending member and the emails I sent were to her directly with my email information, etc., to reply to me.?The implication of the above is that you didn't use the Pending Subscription message facility provided by Groups.io but used a direct email from you instead. That has the drawback that any reply will not be recorded in the Activity Log. If my conclusion is correct then I would suggest that using the formal Pending Subscription message is by far the better option. If that doesn't trigger a response you can always send another with a couple of clicks. It also crossed my mind that when she claimed that she had replied to the message she was mistaking the Confirmation Message with the Pending Subsciption one, but that is somewhat speculaitve. ?Everyone replying to my original post is talking about sending an invite.?Well why not? Somehow an application from a potential member has been deleted and sending an invitation is a good way of remedying the situation. All the members on my group were sent a LINK to join the group, no invites. Is that really relevant in this case? From your original post this was an applicant so being sent a link would not seem to apply. ? Sending the link to join has worked great.?But (as above) is that relevant in this case? On the face of it sending the lost applicant an invitation is the best way of getting a measure of normality restored. Go Admin > Invite on the tabs at the left hand side of your web UI and take it from there. Chris |
