How to stop receiving your own email posting?
Those that choose to receive emails will always get the ones they send (unless they use gmail, then it can be turned off.)
The saving of drafts isn't haphazard for me.? It only happens when I start a topic or reply, then leave the page without canceling.? That's the way it's supposed to work. ken,
How do we stop an emailed post from being send to the person whoYou don't. Groups.io always includes the poster when distributing the messages to the group. Subject to the poster's delivery setting of course. To clarify Duane's comment about Gmail users, it is Gmail that normally hides the poster's own messages when returned from the group. The account option to always receive your own messages implements a work-around to that Gmail behavior. Another work-around is to post via the group's pages instead of via Gmail. Also why does IO haphazardly put a msg in DRAFTS.. not saving draftsA draft is created anytime you begin a message but don't either send or explicitly discard it. That means if you close the browser tab, or click on a link to navigate to another page a draft is created to save your work in progress. The best action is to keep a draft... one reason being that this may me one way people could be setting aside a message for a later response. And in the end, people need to manage this themselves. They should click CANCEL if they don't want to keep a draft of the response they started. Jim H |

What I don't understand...why should clicking on "view/reply online" automatically open a reply box? When I click on that link, what I *usually* want to do is either: a) open the associated thread (so I can see this message in context) or b) simply "like" the post.? Even when I do venture to reply, I end up hitting Discard first, highlight the portion of text I want to quote, then hit Reply all over again. So in addition to occasionally creating an unwanted, empty draft, having the reply box already open doesn't save me anything and actually costs me several steps. Unfortunately, to this point I have been unable to adequately convey this concept in beta, and it appears the situation is no different here in GMF. I'm having a related issue - I think. I'm putting this here to help anyone else who encounters this issue and doesn't want to spend hours/days/whatever figuring it out.
I'm using Gmail, so that's established. I had my account set to send me a copy of all of my messages. I was receiving TWO copies of my replies to others, but not necessarily my own posts. It turns out that I was getting my Gmail copy of my sent message ALONG WITH the copy sent by GIO, so each reply I sent was showing up twice in the threads to which I was replying. I unchecked that setting, and now I'm getting nothing (initially) on my own posts and only the Gmail "Sent" copy in my Gmail threads. |

Gary,
It turns out that I was getting my Gmail copy of my sent message ALONGDo you perchance have a filter set in Gmail to move messages to your inbox when they have the group's tag in the subject? That's the only reason I can think of for this difference in behavior: a reply would have that tag where initial posts from you would not. Shal,
Thanks for your interest in my issue. What was happening is this: When I am the OP on a message, Gmail doesn't show it in my message thread until someone replies to it. When I reply, via Gmail, to a message in an established thread, Gmail shows my reply message (also in the Sent folder) as part of the thread. When I had the "Send me a copy of my posts" option clicked, I would see my Sent message as part of the thread AND immediately following that, I would see the GIO message sent out as my copy of the post. My experience is that Gmail doesn't show my emails in my inbox UNLESS they're part of an ongoing thread that Gmail can link together via replies and Subject lines. Once there is a sent and replied thread going, everything in the thread has the same label (or is in the same folder, but it's Gmail so they use labels). Does that makes sense? |

Gary,
When I am the OP on a message, Gmail doesn't show it in my messageUnderstood. I normally use Gmail with Conversation mode turned off, because I can't make heads or tails of things that way. So for me Gmail doesn't show me my own message in either case (new or reply), unless I check the "I always want copies of my own messages" box in my account. Then it shows each to me, once. Hence my thought that perhaps you have done something to modify Gmail's default behavior, such as have a filter for group messages. But that was probably a mistake: being in conversation mode is likely the reason you see your sent as well as returned messages. (And drafts too). Seeing only replies is probably still related to the change in the subject line: a reply as sent has the group marker in it, whereas a new topic does not - yet (until it returns from the group). If that's not it I'm out of guesses. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Anita,
To get it to show up if you are using gmail.......I was given those instructions back when I still used POP and never did get it (or any other "trick") to cause Gmail to put my own messages (returned from Y!Groups or other list services) in my Inbox. Also I put gmail in my yahoo mail to be forwarded there and then I seeCheating (sending from one address and receiving in another) does work, as does posting from the list's web interface instead of by email. But to me such convolutions are more trouble than they're worth - simpler to avoid using Gmail with mailing lists (except Groups.io, which can sidestep that Gmail "feature").
