How long does it take to transfer

How long does it take to transfer from a yahoogroup into groups.io? Less than 50 members. Probably 1000 messages. No files at this time. Thanks so much. Tammi

The transfer itself does not take long, but there is a waiting list, so it won't be done immediately. As best I can tell, groups are being transferred in order of request. Last I heard the queue was running around 2-3 days...AFTER you accept the transfer agent as a group Moderator and send notification that you're ready.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Ok, I have sent my request via?/edittransfer?start=1 and will be waiting.

Thanks,

I’ve been waiting patiently until I heard the queue was running around 2-3 days...AFTER you accept the transfer agent as a group Moderator and send notification that you're ready.

Well I completed steps 0 through 4 on 3/8 and still waiting. I have checked the “In Process” pulldown and it shows my group’s name. Is it possible my request has fallen through the cracks? Is there anyone I could be checking with?

Robert,

It does depend on how much content the group has that needs to be collected, but eleven days seems extreme.

Are the checkboxes grey (disabled)? That would indicate that the form thinks you've given the go ahead, and the data collection should be "in process".

Look for any notices you may have received after the one in Step 3 (Inbox, Spam, Trash, wherever one might have been delivered). The transfer stalled on a couple of my groups for having a larger total photo storage than would fit in my (Basic) plan. The transfer agent emailed me with a "what should we do" question.

I think you can reply to [email protected], or contact [email protected] and name both the Y!group and the Groups.io group.

Can someone tell me where the “In Process” pulldown is located? Could not find it after I read about it in Shal’s posting. Thanks in advance.

In your original topic Bruce & I both gave you a link to the transfer page. Down at the bottom Click the button for the Yahoo Group Instructions. Review all of? that. The pull-down is at the bottom, over to the right.

Before I reply to [email protected], or contact [email protected] let me check the checkboxes, where do I find them for this? transfer? If I click on the green “Start New Transfer” I see boxes for a “new” transfer. BTW, I have made the [email protected] member a moderator, returned to Yahoo Transfer, and ?selected my In Process transfer, and I told them that I was ready for the transfer to happen. Once they receive the go ahead, depending on load, within one business day it should happen. No joy.

Select the name of the Y!group from the In Process list. That should take you to the status page.

Before you've given the "Go", the boxes there will still be enabled, and you'll have a button to update your request (select different items to transfer) if you want. Probably also one to cancel the transfer, and, when the transfer agent (believes it) has joined your group a button to initiate the data collection (I've been calling it the "Go" button, but I don't think it actually used that word). Anyway, after you've clicked that last button the checkboxes on that page will be disabled - your choices are locked in.

Right. You only click that button once (per group being transferred, you can have more than one in process at a time).
?
Hope this helps, good luck!

I'm in the same situation as Robert, having initiated a transfer on March 9th. When I select the Yahoo group name from the In Process drop down it goes to the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer page with a blue 'Update Transfer' and red 'Delete Transfer Request' button and with all the selection buttons ticked and blue. I'm thinking to delete it and start again...

Bruce,

I have tried to transfer my uk group several times.? Whenever I click the status button nothing has changed and all options are still available.

Usually having the options still available means you haven't clicked what I've been calling the "Go" button. But it sounds like you are not being shown that button, which usually means that the transfer agent hasn't yet accepted your invitation or joined your group.

In Step 3 you should have been sent an email with instructions. If you haven't received that it would be a further indication that the transfer agent doesn't think it is ready to begin (hasn't accepted the invite or joined).

I'm not sure what confusion is afoot. It may be that the several attempts have confused the mechanism, or Mark, somehow. I'm also not sure how long the queue is in the two places in the mechanism where you might wait. But regardless the evidence you have indicates to me a confused state. If it has been more than a couple days since the last action I'd write to [email protected] to see if you're just waiting or if you needed to be unstuck somehow.

Shal:

[email protected] became a member of the group on February 27.? Per step 4 of Easy Transfer I initiated a transfer request that day.? Nothing happened for about 2 weeks so I cancelled that transfer request and submitted a new request last week and still nothing is happening from what I can see.? This is what I get if I check on the progress.

I'm stuck too.? I've invited [email protected] to our group on 3/17, and I'm not receive an email and don't see them as a member of our group.? I've also completed the "Easy Yahoo Group Transfer" page with the check boxes and clicked Update transfer.? It's frustrating to not know if you are in the queue, or if you've initiated this process correctly.? I keep checking our group and looking for an email, but nothing.? Does anyone have any advise on how we can check our transfer request?? LInda

Shal,

?

The email to [email protected] produced the desired results the next day. Now to test the group to see if it performs for us.

?

Thanks,

Robert

I just became unstuck.? Received the email from "Easy Group Transfer".? Then made them moderator, then returned to the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer page where I was finally able to see the go button.? What may help if this was documented a bit.? It may be that because of the backlog, the longer time frames leave users like me questioning if they've done it correctly.? But I'm excited to be taking yet one more step away from the continually crashing Yahoo site.?Thank you again!? Linda?

OK, I deleted the request and starting over (including deleting the transfer agent off my Yahoo member list). The whole transfer then went through in less than 24 hours...! The In Process page showed completely differently with no clickable buttons, all blue choice buttons greyed and the name of the yahoo group with 'transfer in progress' or similar in the 'In Process' box at the bottom right.

Clearly the first request just wasn't proceeding and I suspect it was likely down to me clicking something out of turn or otherwise doing something to confuse the process. Still suspicious of the number of messages appearing here about problems though, but re-starting worked for me..;-)
