I've read that because of a bug (in Google groups) it is only possible to import members from there (not content).

Is there ever going to be a way to eventually import the message data also?

Only Mark (the developer of Groups.io) would know that and he doesn't monitor this group.? You might contact [email protected] to see if you get an answer.
