Does anyone know why the topics-test page isn't working
Topics-test remains offline as of this morning.
Removing something that was in trial mode to begin with does not strike me as a "bug"...especially when a banner notice is displayed in its stead. Frankly, I'm surprised that Mark left it in place as long as he did.* Here's hoping that he brings back some new flavor of multi-message delete function. The rest was kinda handy, but I can live without it. Regards, Bruce *Wondering now if someone stumbled across it and did some serious damage to their message archive. -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

It has been in trial mode since July of last year (Ref:?). That seems like a very long time for such a thing. Understood. And I see that you've posted something about this in beta. A bulk message deletion feature is something that has often been requested here. As for your own situation, I recommend that you ask for what you really want...a group setting that disables the message archive altogether. While you can live without it, the circle of groups that I hang around in cannot. We are all used to not even having messages visible in the first place.? Please keep in mind the hashtag work-around that we discussed several months ago:? -- In group Settings, under Message Policies, check the box for Hashtags Required. -- Set Hashtag Permissions to "Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, otherwise the message is bounced." -- Create ONE hashtag for the group and set its Topic Duration to one hour, and -- Train everyone who is allowed to post to apply the hashtag every time.* They have...but it seems Mark is disinclined to provide that functionality (i.e.: "the system wasn't really designed for that type of usage"). Good luck, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help *Hmmm...another option I just thought of would be to set up an email integration for the group. You could then set the #email hashtag to delete the topic after one hour and just retrain everybody to post to the integration address. |

You see most of us came from Y groups and in Y groups the messages could be hidden from members so we didn't have to worry about deleting them. Why is it important to delete messages you may ask? Because our groups aren't like 80% of the groups on Groups IO where conversation is the main focus of the group and references are needed so keeping the messages is important.I think it's more like 99.9% of groups here that use email archives. Perhaps switching to Google Groups would work for you, as while it also keeps a message archive, it has an option to refuse access to anyone except owners. See attached screencaps. -- Bill |

I agree 100% with everything you say about groups.io! It might be worth posting a request to the beta list to ask if Mark could include something like the Google Groups archive viewing options in the Privacy section of group settings, although downstream I see that Shal has posted on this topic, to which I've now added the Google info. -- Bill On 3/31/2019 12:04 AM, Leeni wrote:

Bill, Leeni,
In retrospect I should have broken out my reply in beta as a New Topic, since it is a suggestion different from (though related to) the bulk delete feature. That would help Mark keep track of things. If you follow up with that as a request, I suggest you make it a New Topic and cite the bulk delete topic rather than reply to it.
