deleting Photos

开云体育

I’ve started deleting photos from a couple of months ago which were inserted images (oh how I wish I could select several at a time and bulk delete... lol).
I am finding that sometimes when I click on a photo it doesn’t come up, the photo before or after appears. Is this a known problem or am I just unlucky?
Any suggestions, please?
I didn’t realised that when one member used Incredimail, those fluttering butterflies and the ape went in to the photo album too... heaps of those to delete... I need to ask her not to use it.

I feel your pain, especially with all those miniature sig-line images that some folks can't seem to do without.

As if the one-by-one process of deleting such photos isn't annoying enough, due to browser caching I often find it necessary to refresh the screen between deletions so my next click will select the right photo. So no, it's nothing unique to your setup.?

Win,
I had/have the same problem with deletions. No suggestions, it is still way better than Yahoo.

Bruce and others, having Photos enabled means that anything that comes through your group that have any graphics with have the graphics dumped in a folder in your photos section, quickly taking up space. I don't know why it is set up that way here. I have never seen that before anyplace else. There is a work around however...if you need to use photos you can enable photos in the files section, by first enabling them in the admin settings, create a folder for your photos in the files section and just disable the photos section. There are also a few other settings that can help. I have attached a screen shot of my settings that may help with that.?

Yahoo has a "Photostream" instead of an "Emailed Photos" folder, otherwise it is similar.?I would like a configuration option to strip out embedded images so that only actual photo attachments end up the folder and all the sig line stuff disappears. This and similar options have been an often-requested feature in the beta group.

Please be advised that if you turn off photos entirely then any image attachments to emails will not be saved on the server. While this may seem like a good thing, they will also go missing from your message archives. I believe they still get forwarded in the actual emails but a significant fraction of my members don't receive group emails and?instead do all their message browsing on the web.

Regards,
Bruce

The one thing I was sad to see that wouldn’t transfer was the Attachments.

Thanks Bruce, I’ll try that...
Actually as it is all such a pain I am considering paying the $10 a month so I don’t have to do it... lol.

I have a Premium group and still have to delete those annoying photos one by one. I suspect if Mr Fletcher made bulk photo deletion a Premium-only feature he might have a lot more paying customers. :-)

Other than cluttering up the Emailed Photos album, is there a reason to bother deleting them?

An alternative is in the Message Formatting section of your group's settings: Delete Old Attachments when out of space, and then just let the site deal with them:

For what it is worth, some ideas to make it easier to delete or consolidate these repeat photos have been discussed in beta.

Shal, the reason that I don’t want ALL old attachments deleted is that mine is a Photoshop group and several times a week I send in a tutorial with a sample. I want to keep those samples associated with the emails for when a new member may want to search the archives for a particular technique.
When the members do that tutorial, they send in their own sample. We don’t need those samples after a certain time, but we do need the original sample with its email.
So I need to do “selective” deleting. One thing that is making it difficult is that sometimes members will reply and include the original message and sample in their reply.
I have checked out the link you provided and none of the suggestions exactly fit what I need... the idea of consolidate (1b) has merit, but how to I make sure that the original sample is the one retained... at the moment I am having to click on a photo, see who sent it, then do the appropriate action... delete or keep... tedious, but accurate... it looks like that is the only way at the moment.
I’m working on an explanation and instructions for my group, hopefully when they read them they will take it to heart.
Thanks for your reply though.

Win and Shal,

Win,

? While I understand the desire to "just put stuff (images, etc.) in as an attachment ...
my own personal 'reality test' is that if a poster isn't willing to take the time to
Upload something to Files or Photos ... then they shouldn't expect that whatever
they put in as an attachment has any more "permanence" than the message
itself.

? That said - it would seem to me that if an image is in a message (post) then
it should "survive as long as the message survives".? I think that the way
attachments work is that groups.io actually stores the images in the Photos
folder ... but it doesn't keep track of whether it was uploaded or sent as an
attachment.
? So, without adding that info "some how" it would seem that if we had a
"delete by date" or some other such manner that we might have what we
need?

Shal,
? This can open up the proverbial can of worms.? One owner/moderator/user
wants delete this way, the next one that way, etc. ... and it can be hard to
-simply- add deleting images/whatever thru any other method that doing
it individually.? Which, to my way of thinking, makes ownership/moderation
SIGnificantly more difficult/time consuming.
