Chat groups - Reply option

vickie

I have been ?absent from groups ?for ?more than 3 wks.

On ?my return ?I found some change to ?group. io.?

I ?normally ?reply via my email account to any messages. However because ?I had so many accumulated in the 3 wks or so I ?decided

to delete all of them and ?visit the group page thread instead and choose which messages I wanted to respond to

To my surprise if a topic ?has a long thread of messages ? I ?can't ?choose to reply to one of the threads.. The reply option is gone from each ?thread of messages. Ugh!

I'd bet that you need to sign in. Your 30 day login probably expired on the device you're using now.

My chat group ? members will continue chatting from the original topic. ?They never delete the last thread and the conversation?
can go on and on ? with ?a lot of threads added to ?the original ?topic..?

Basically one topic ? becomes one long ?(message) ?thread ?and if you click on the 3 dots it ?expands all the thread of message. ?

Each thread did have an option to reply to that members ?message.. I don't see a ?reply ?in each thread of messages ?any longer.
Not ?available in message view, not in expand message view, not even in thread view.
Yes ?there is an option to reply ? only in ? ?the ?first original ? topic .
?I have ?at times ?15 or more ?messages from one topic.. ?
?In the process of accumulating ?15 or more messages ?from the original post the topic ?can change ?many times in the thread of messages.
?This is a problem for me.. ugh?

p.s. I think I know what you're seeing, Vickie. When people reply by email and don't trim their posts, you see all the previous posts in the thread as part of the one post, so of course you can't reply to them. But what you're seeing is just the repetition of those posts in the email, not the posts themselves. If you scroll back up, you'd be able to see the "reply" button on each one.

J>>>>When people reply by email and don't trim their posts, you see all the previous posts in the thread as part of the one post
Yes, this is true,

J>>>so of course you can't reply to them
Yes ?I can
?Via my email ?I can delete part of the thread and keep ? to the topic I want to ? respond to
You can't do that ?via the group ?page.
I deleted all my emails so ?now I am ?not able to ? respond to ?some of the messages accumulated in one ?thread of messages.?

If you scroll back up, you'd be able to see the "reply" button on each one.
Are you still talking about email ?to reply?

If you are talking about the group page ? with threads of messages in one topic, no you can't reply to any of the thread messages
in that ?topic.

Duane, ?

I am signed in.
I had deleted all of my ?3 wks or more of ?incoming mail

I ?decided to respond to some of the ?thread messages directly from the group page ?

From the group page is how I discovered the problem.?
Now I am presented with work. I would have to copy paste each thread I want to ?reply to in a new post window. ugh!!
?There are just too ?many ?for me to do. I won't ?do it..?
?Instead ?I will have to give my ?apologies ?to my members. ugh! ( frustrated )

You may be seeing long posts that aren't trimmed, such as /g/beta/message/6776 If you go to your group, select Messages on the left, then choose one of the View options from the drop down (Thread View is the default), you should be able to reply to individual posts. In your case, I think Expanded Message View might be the best choice. They would be shown in reverse chronological order (newest to oldest) by default. Once you hit the Reply button under the post that you're reading, you have the choice of Insert Quoted Text from that post. Once that's in there, you can select all that you don't want and hit the delete button on your computer, just like you would in an email program.

Is this what you're trying to accomplish?
