Bouncing of email subscription and message approval messages

Tom Hilton

Hi
as the owner of several user groups, that I maintain using email, is is quite annoying
to get bounced email just because a user or message was already approved.
When you have multiple owners or admins, it is quite possible that one of
them already approved a message or user request, without the other?
owners or admins knowledge.

How about just accepting the email and killing it instead of bouncing it.

I don't see why it would make much difference.? It could also cause problems for some groups if it doesn't bounce.

All the more reason to keep the number of people doing any given job in check.

If reviewing and approving messages/users is something that you don't do, simply turn off that notification in your Subscription settings ("Email when there are messages needing approval", "Email when there are members needing approval", etc.).

Tom,

I find this so disconcerting that I've ceased (for the most part) approving by email (as I still do frequently for Y!Groups). That works for me because I'm either at a desktop or smartphone and in either case getting to the Pending list is a single click on the included link. YMMV.

How about just accepting the email and killing it instead of bouncing
it.
Suggest it in beta and see if Mark does it or comments on it.

I'm not sure if I'd be lured back to approve-by-email now. I've grown accustomed to seeing the list of pending messages and maybe noticing
duplicate or follow-on messages by the same member in the same topic.

So much so that I've not reported the bug that the link invariably brings
me to the list rather than the message in question - contrary to the
apparent intention.

Terrific idea. That's how Yahoo does it.?

Hi there,

I don't understand this. The bouncing message is unnecessary and irritating, It is quite common to have two moderators. I don't want to go and check every time?if my colleague?has already approved a post. If you want to keep it, fine, but can we have a toggle to switch it off?

Martin?

Martin,

colleague has already approved a post.
I concur. This annoyance has largely trained me not to approve by email anymore.

I'll admit there are some good parts about that. One is that I get to see if any co-mods have claimed a message. Another is that if there's more messages the next one opens automatically and it takes just one more click to handle it.

A Third is that I get to see the list of pending messages - sometimes a member will post a message then post an immediate retraction. So seeing two messages in a row in the same topic from the same member is a red flag to go read them all before approving the first.

If you want to keep it, fine, but can we have a toggle to switch it
off?
I think it has been mentioned before, but you can always post to Groups.io's official "suggestion box":
