Hello Groups.io Team Support:

?

We have a problem here --- and its a big nuisance.? I am owner of NY City transit Modelers Group - Forum.

?

See the email FURTHER BELOW sent to me as group OWNER by your Groups TEAM --- and it speaks for itself.

?

Steps I took as follow - to no avail:

?

?

(a) -- I tried to send this "removed" member a new INVITE using his email address ([redacted])? and it would not go thru -- and when I checked the "SENT INVITATIONS" It came up zero? (0) sent

?

(b)? -- I sent him a private email from my own email address and he received it -- I instructed him to go to the site and try to REGISTER -- and it would NOT allow him to register because he received a notice that " that email address is already in use at this group"? -? So what the heck is that !!!

?

(c)? -- NEXT -- I checked the membership register rolls for my group and he is NO LONGER LISTED -- nor does his email address ([redacted]) come up in a member search --- 0 is what I get as a result.

?

(d) -- I called this member today a few minutes ago (a long time member and friend) by phone and we spoke -- but he was at the beach and was not by his computer to do any additional troubleshooting with me via phone instructions.? However,? his membership IS REMOVED from my group.?

Again... ?W H Y !!!!

?

SO please tell me WHO and WHY this member was removed ("unsubscribed") from MY Group --- not done by him,? not done by me ---? WHO authorized anyone at Groups.io to do this ??? ? And now he can't get back in via REGISTERING because your system states to him that his email address is "still used and on board at the group".? When actually,? its not and it is NOT in the membership list anymore !? WHY would you remove a member for what is indicated in the email your team sent me below !!!

?

Please respond ASAP as to how to fix this.? I thought this similar kind of nonsense ended when we moved away from YAHOO Groups,

and please respond to me at the email address I sent this message from.? Thank you? !!? (SEE FORWARDED MESSAGE SENT TO ME BY THE GROUPS.IO team attached below...)

Hello Shal !

THANKS MUCH -- I just joined Groups Managers Forum and found this already -- seems its a big problem and a Retribution Nuisance NASTY caused by Verizon/OATH towards Groups.io for all the groups leaving Yahoo (as I did) for groups.io.? Mainly to Yahoo or AOL email users to DO NOT sign the "OATH PLEDGE for T.O.S. (terms of service)?

I sent a private email to my affected member alerting him to look for? a RESUB email from Groups.io to respond to within 3 days.

Thanks for your quick reply !

FAQ Will this happen to me? Maybe. This issue affects users of specific email services that choose to interpret spam markings as a request to unsubscribe.

Joe,

... I just joined Groups Managers Forum and found this already --
seems its a big problem ...
It is an on-going problem with certain email services. Members using those services need to be vigilant, that's about all we can suggest.

As to the points you raised with support,

(a) I don't see why sending the former member an Invite didn't work. I know of at least one group owner who routinely uses Direct Add to put the removed members back.

Maybe your case had something to do with the general site issues that cropped up last night.

(b) Maybe also the site problems, but maybe by "register" he tried to sign up for a new Groups.io account (rather than just re-join your group). His account would not have been removed, only the subscription to your group.

... and a Retribution Nuisance NASTY caused by Verizon/OATH towards
Groups.io for all the groups leaving Yahoo (as I did) for groups.io.
I really don't think the FBL issue has anything to do with groups migrating to Groups.io, or with Groups.io at all. I really don't think anyone at Verizon/Oath is paying enough attention to Yahoo Groups to have even noticed. But that's just my opinion.

Note too that some of the email services on our list of troublesome services aren't owned by Verizon.

Mainly to Yahoo or AOL email users to DO NOT sign the "OATH PLEDGE
for > T.O.S. (terms of service)

I think ultimately you either go with it, or you stop using their services. I'm still using Yahoo Groups so I've accepted the new TOS, but that's a personal choice.

I sent a private email to my affected member alerting him to look for
a RESUB email from Groups.io to respond to within 3 days.
Good, hopefully he will.

Hello again Shal

THANKS also for the specific heads up info and advice.? Much appreciated !! Perhaps that software glitch via Mark F was the "INVITE fail issue earlier today (Wednesday) . I just gave up and sent my member a standard personal email 'heads up" of the issue and my suggestions.? And Phone Called him also.

I truly APPRECIATE the feedback from you and the other member-responses to my message -- thank you all !

Perhaps if you wonder what my "NYC Transit Modelers Group"? is about - check out my NY CITY?MODEL TRANSIT SYSTEM (operating Layout)? FLICKR PHOTOS WEBSITE site to see some amazing hand built scale modeling work I do -- link below? (also see and check the 'ALBUMS' & 'FAVORITES' tab links on the page header)?

And "this" is what a number of other members of my NYC Transit Modelers Group (forum) also do in various model scales of N, HO, O, S and 1/2" model railroad scales.? Since we started the group back in 2001. And they have their own photo albums on our NYCTMG Group ALBUMS page.

Jim Higgins

Received from NY City Model Transit System, by Joseph. Frank (Irtelman) at 8/16/2018 02:04 AM UTC:

(b) -- I sent him a private email from my own email address and he received it -- I instructed him to go to the site and try to REGISTER -- and it would NOT allow him to register because he received a notice that " that email address is already in use at this group" - So what the heck is that !!!

That "already in use" message doesn't seem too surprising to me if the member is still within the 3-day period during which he can click a link and be reinstated. I'd guess - emphasis on GUESS - that Gio is "reserving" that address... at least during the 3-day reinstatement period.

Hello Jim H

THANKS much for that, your,? additional valued input!? Now I know WHY my member got a notice that his email addy was "still in use on site"? even tho he was no longer listed in the membership list !! ?

I sent said member a personal private? email? heads up alert to look in his AOL inbox (or, heh SPAM box) for the G.io RESUB email and respond to it within that 3 days.? Its in his hands to take care of that now. Thankfully his is the ONLY problem so far that my group has had on this APM / rejection issue.
