Size of HomePage Masthead photo . . .

I'm curious to learn whether the MastHead photo on the homepage is governed by the max photo size setting for attachments or files...Paul -- The cover photo is not affected by this setting. ...or if it maybe has its own independent size control setting somewhere that I so far haven't located. There is no size control setting, either. The photo needs to have a 3:1 aspect ratio, and will be rescaled to 900x300 pixels. If you want to put up a photo with some other aspect ratio (or of a smaller size) it has to be padded with whitespace to keep it from being distorted by the rescaling. Bruce |
I remember when YG changed the way the homepage image could be displayed to the way Groups.io does it, and personally I thought it sucked. In my group I change the photo once a month to showcase a different member (much like a magazine), and some great photos cannot be used because manipulating them to fit 900x300 pixels kind of ruins them for display. I've learned to deal with this limitation.

I just uploaded a 1280 x 960 picture and it was resized to 400 x 300 without distortion on my PC monitor.? When I squished the browser down to phone size, it dropped to 253 x 190, but still clear.? (When I used a 2592 x 3872 picture, it was 300 x 488 on the PC.) Don,
... and some great photos cannot be used because manipulating them toIt may or may not be useful for your situation, but one thing I've seen done is to take two or three images that are closer to square, and compose them together into a 3:1 aspect ratio for the cover image. Or you could flank your your showcase image with flat colors or graphics of your choice to fill out the width. Maybe a headline about the member to the left and a credits or other info to the right. You should be able to do this even with relatively simple photo editors, such as the Paint utility included with Windows. I've learned to deal with this limitation. If that's what you meant by "learned to deal with" my apologies for telling you what you already know. Shal,
I might try that idea you suggested in grouping photos together, but for now this is what I've been doing since the YG Nero upgrade.?/g/foggers I miss not being able to use taller pictures without resizing them down (The picture loses a lot in the process), and I usually still have to resize down the pictures that I do use.
