Can a Message Be Sent from the Owner Address without Identifying the Owner Who Is Posting? #question #messages

I have an owner who needs to remain publicly silent, but helps in moderating messages.? To help relieve some of my workload, is it possible for her to send a message to a member that does not identify her directly, but only uses the owner address as the sender?? She can sign my name to the message---I just wouldn't have to send it myself, which would be a big help.

If it is to reject a message, any owner or moderator can do that. It doesn't give the name of the sender or group email address of the actual sender - just the email address. [email protected]

GMF is very organized and has created several messages to be used for rejecting messages. Use member notices. Plus they can be tweaked before sending. Or do one freeform.

BTW, I would NOT have the owner sign your name. There is no reason to do so and good reasons why not. Just sign your group name.?

You can also send a "note to member" with just the group owner email address.
(Just tested it.)

Go to Members. Select the member.
Go to +Owner Messages button.
Click Reply.
If Note To Member doesn't come up, change to that from the dropdown list.
BCC herself or all mods.
Send.

When the message came to me, it only had the group owner email address.

Why is it not a good idea to sign my name as owner?? Our group is restricted and all memberships must be approved.

Because it might be below something with which you fundamentally disagree. Whatever she says YOU have to accept full responsibility for it and any and all consequences that arise.

OK; I'll admit that something not greatly different occurs on the group I moderate and co - own; sometimes a message will be sent in the owner's "name" and it will have all three names at the bottom, but I would never sign a message pretending to be someone else, and I would strongly object if anyone used my name under a message that they had sent.

Furthermore if I was on the receiving end of a message sent by person A but appearing to be from person B I would not be happy if I discovered the deception, however innocent the underlying reason for it might be.

I have updated the wiki so you can direct your owner to the instructions there. Membership in GMF is not necessary to see the wiki or the messages. (Actually they are open to anyone.)

I agree that it doesn?t make much sense to have an owner address that by default shows the alias of the sender. I want to use the owner address for postings to the group that come from our team and not from a single moderator like Christmas wishes or general information but at the moment this is not possible. I posed this question a while ago (

You can change your Display Name to something like "Moderation team".

If you don't want that appearing on your regular postings, use a spare email address for the purpose: promote it to mod and set its Display Name to a generic team name. Granted this is a bit inconvenient due to the need to have a separate login for this alternate address.

I posed this question a while ago (#13906) and hope very much it will
be considered on Mark?s to-do-list.

Recall that there are no Groups.io employees reading GMF. Use beta, the "suggestion box", to bring the suggested improvement to their attention.

Yes. But even in this case I could be identified I believe.

We did this of course a while ago. Each moderator has a special owner address now. But in spite of this it does not make much sense to have an owners address option in groups.io which doesn?t work correctly, especially since it looks very convenient when there is a setting that gives you the choice between the personal and the owner?s address. It is even somewhat misleading.

Yes, it is, since you have to log out and then log back in again, then log out and in again to go about the usual business:-)

Yes, I am aware of that. I just didn?t want to bother Mark with additonal trivia as long as he is occupied with transfers.

I acted as an Email Manager for 7 years receiving and sending email for 3 different Chapter Presidents during those years. My emails reflected the philosophy/desires/words of each of the president's which at times, I was not in full agreement with because of policy interpretation.?

I signed my name at the bottom of those email and below that included in my signature "on behalf of [Name], Chapter President.?
?
It proved very valuable down the road and relieved me personally of the responsibility of emailing our members directives that were not supported by policy.?
