I¡¯ve lost all groups, including several I am owner of
David Kirkby
I had a problem with the email address?drkirkby@...?so messages sent there were bouncing. I changed my email address in groups.io to drkirkby @ gmail.com. That worked okay. I then tried to change the email back to?drkirkby@...,?

The email address?drkirkby@...?is correct. I can log in okay now from the web interface - I don¡¯t need to use Facebook any more. So there¡¯s no need for me to change the email address.?
?
However, I was a member of around 10 groups, and owner of about 5.?
?
I could easily rejoin the groups, but in some cases, I am the only owner. I set up the FT-901 group about 2 weeks ago. There are no other moderators or owners to that?group. So clearly I need to gain access to the groups.?

If there are none there, then you're definitely logged in under the "wrong" email address. I'm at a loss to suggest what the "correct" one could be. It has been previously reported that merging two email addresses could cause someone to lose ownership of a group if you merged the one the owned the group into another one that didn't. I didn't know the same thing could occur with changing it, and I also don't know if you can regain ownership by changing it back. I'm kinda with Duane that you'll probably need the help of support to extricate you from this predicament. It's been said many times before here in GMF, but it bears repeating:? Set up a password for yourself, and find a trusted co-owner for all your groups. Bruce? |
Can you see Admin on the left menu? If yes, you can go to Activity.

David,
I am unsure how to get at my activity, but it looks like this is a newIt most likely is a new account. Assuming your first email address change succeeded, your prior account's email address became the gmail address. If the attempt to switch your account's address back failed, then you've created a new account at the original address. But that would mean that your original account is still held under the gmail address, and you ought to be able to log in using that address (via the email me a link method). If that works, and holds your various subscriptions with their owner role, then do NOT attempt to merge it into the account with the kirkbymicrowave address - that might cause the role to be lost. If that doesn't work, and results in another new account, then it would seem you've changed your original account to an unknown address. I didn't think that was possible, I thought a confirmation sent to the new address had to be received and acted upon to confirm the address change. But maybe I'm wrong about that, and you'll need help from support to unravel it. What had happened was went attempting to switch the gmail account to the kirkbymicrowave one, I had a typo, with a / in the email address.? So once support told me that address, I had access to everything. So one needs to be very careful changing email addresses, as a typo creates serious problems.? I did actually merge the two?account in the end. That went okay. It does seem a bit odd that one can change the email address of an account to another email address without confirming that one wishes to do that. I am going to try to get another owner for every group. But that¡¯s easier said than done, as some of the groups I have created have been created in an attempt to save so very small Yahoo groups.?
